New-gen Renault Kwid (Dacia Spring EV) Explained In 10 Images

The next-gen entry-level hatchback has been unveiled in the United Kingdom as an all-electric model

Dacia, Renault’s affordable sister brand, has taken the wraps off the next-gen Spring EV (Kwid) in the United Kingdom. This model previews the next-gen Kwid, which could be rebadged and sold as a Renault on our shores. And in this report, we are going to give you a deep dive of the new generation hatchback in our image gallery.

In terms of design, the Spring EV features a new fascia with the updated Dacia grille that merges on to the new Y-shaped LED DRLs. Right below it sits the new LED headlamps and a chunky bumper with a skid plate. Overall, the front-end continues to look rugged, just like the current Kwid we get in India.

The side profile looks familiar as the design is more or less similar to the outgoing model, save for the newly styled wheels. Not a bad thing, to be honest, as the body and door cladding does exude a butch vibe.

Shifting focus to the rear-end, you now get new LED tail lamps with a ‘Y’ insignia. The lights are connected by a black plastic trim which has a bold ‘Dacia’ badge. A restyled rear bumper rounds off the overall design.

Inside, the Spring EV’s redesigned cabin looks way more upmarket and premium than its predecessor. The highlight is the new floating touchscreen infotainment system, right below which are the new AC vents with a Y-shaped insert. The driver also gets to grip on a new steering wheel and the cabin gets plenty of storage places on the dashboard to store knick knacks.

Other features onboard include a 7-inch digital driver’s display (new), Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, connected car tech, manual AC (with electronically operated controls), keyless entry, steering-mounted audio controls, cruise control and type-C USB charging ports.

Safety features include multiple airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, electronic stability control and most importantly, certain ADAS features such as lane keep assist, auto emergency braking and traffic sign recognition.

Another highlight of the new Spring EV is its boot space, which, at 308 litres, is one of the largest in the segment. And with the availability of folding rear seats, that number goes up to a whopping 1004 litres, which is quite impressive.

The Spring EV, in the United Kingdom, is sold as an all-electric model only. It gets a choice of either a 45PS or a 65PS e-motor, both paired to a 26.8kWh battery pack, claiming to deliver over 220km (pending certification). That being said, in India, expect this model to be offered as an ICE model first, probably with the same 68PS 1-litre petrol engine. The EV version could be introduced down the road after the ICE version goes on sale.

If the next-gen Kwid gets the green light here, it could be introduced on our shores sometime in 2025. We expect it to have a starting price of around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the ICE model. It will renew its rivalry with the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso and Alto K10 on our shores.
