  • VW to implement social distancing and other measures at its dealerships.
  • Disinfected touchpoints will be branded with a ‘Safe & Sanitized’ logo.
  • The carmaker has also introduced an online sales platform for customers.

As more carmakers start resuming their operations as state governments across India ease up lockdown restrictions, a variety of health and hygiene initiatives are also being undertaken. Volkswagen India has introduced the #VWellnessIndia Program that focuses on the health and safety of its employees, dealer partners and customers.

This program offers a comprehensive guideline to undertake safety measures across VW’s dealerships and workshops. Some of these measures include regular sanitization of vehicles and facilities, following hygiene practices, thermal scanning, social distancing, being equipped with PPE gear and usage of hand sanitizer. The sales, service and administration teams have been given virtual training sessions to follow these protocols.

Protective gear consisting of gloves and masks are being distributed to the carmaker’s 137 sales and 116 service touchpoints in the country. Volkswagen will also be branding all its sanitized and disinfected touchpoints with the carmaker’s ‘Safe & Sanitized’ logo. Other protocols consist of providing minimal contact pick up and drop services, its digital sales platform as well as remote test drives.

As things stand, expect more carmakers to come up with similar initiatives as well as online sales platforms depending upon how the coronavirus pandemic pans out. On the other hand, online sales platforms may well become the preferred purchasing process for car buyers even after things go back to normal.
