Ather’s Biggest Rival Is Launching Soon!

When Bengaluru-based startup Simple Energy treated us to pictures and specs for its debut Mark 2 e-scooter late last year, we were quite blown away by the claims. A top speed of over 100kmph while still offering 260km of range in Eco mode and fully charging up in just over an hour! Sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it? Well, we’re about to find out if it is, because Simple Energy will be launching its inaugural e-scooter in just a few months.

The company aims to introduce the Mark 2 to the market by May and is investing Rs 45 crore to set up a manufacturing facility to achieve this. The plant is expected to come up in Hosur and have a capacity of 50,000 units per annum. At this facility, Simple Energy will produce the Mark 2 with a localisation level of 79% to 85%, if its claims are to be believed.

Will this be enough to meet the target expected price of Rs 1.1 lakh? Only time will tell. If it does manage to pull this off, the Mark 2 will massively undercut the Ather 450X (Rs 1.47 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi) while also outperforming it.
