Jaguar Land Rover plans to open new plant in Slovakia

Luxury carmaker Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) owned by Tata Motors has chosen Slovakia as its site for building a new manufacturing unit. The company has signed a 'Letter of Intent' with the government of the Slovak Republic for the unit in the city of Nitra in western Slovakia.

JLR stated that it was analysing various location including Europe, US, Mexico, but preferred Slovakia as it is close to a strong supply chain and good logistics infrastructure. The luxury carmaker is planning to build the factory with an installed capacity of 3,00,000 vehicles.

The creation of new international plants allows the iconic British car brands to increase its presence in regions that have been identified as having growth potential, protect against currency fluctuations and achieve a more efficient, globally competitive business.

JLR had also set up a new manufacturing unit in China and commenced construction of a manufacturing plant in Brazil in 2014.
