TVS Apache RTR 160 Latest Updates

TVS’ workhorse received a minor update in September 2022. The updates weren’t just on the surface as the RTR 160 2V also pushes a bit more oomph now. How does it come together in the real world? We’ve managed to put it through our test cycle and here’s how it fares.

TVS Apache RTR 160 Engine

The TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by a fuel-injected 159.7cc single-cylinder 2-valve SOHC air-cooled motor. It produces 16.04PS and 13.85Nm and is paired to a 5-speed gearbox. It also gets ‘Glide Through Technology’ which bumps up revs at low-throttle openings and prevents the engine from stalling. Powering the TVS Apache RTR 160 is the same fuel-injected 159.7cc single-cylinder 2-valve SOHC air-cooled motor, which now makes 16.04PS and 13.85Nm, 0.51PS more and 0.05Nm less than the outgoing version. No changes to the 5-speed gearbox but the bike now gets ‘Glide Through Technology’ that bumps up revs at low-throttle openings and prevents the engine from stalling. The Apache RTR 160 2V is underpinned by a dual-cradle frame and features a telescopic fork and twin gas-charged shock absorbers. Braking is via a 270mm front petal disc and a 130mm rear drum, along with an optional rear 200mm petal disc. All three variants get single-channel ABS. It has an accessible 790mm seat height, 180mm ground clearance, and a 12-litre fuel tank. It gets 90/90-17 front and 120/80-17 rear tubeless Remora tyres.

TVS Apache RTR 160 Variants

The TVS Apache RTR 160 2V is available in three variants: Drum priced at Rs 1,17,790, Disc at Rs 1,21,290 and Disc with connectivity costs Rs 1,24,590 (ex-showroom Delhi).

TVS Apache RTR 160 Design

Sporting the same original design from the 2010s, the Apache RTR 160 2V now feels a tad bit dated. It does sport sportier graphics now and a modern face but there’s no denying that the bike needs a serious overhaul.

TVS Apache RTR 160 Features

The RTR 160 2V now comes equipped with a fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and TVS’ SmartXonnect with Voice Assist on the top trim. There’s also turn-by-turn navigation, a gear position indicator, a shift indicator, call and SMS notification alerts, race telemetry and a lap timer. Apart from that, it gets LED headlight and taillight and comes with the safety net of single-channel ABS.

TVS Apache RTR 160 Competitors

The TVS Apache RTR 160 2V goes toe-to-toe with the Bajaj Pulsar P150, Yamaha FZ-FI and Honda XBlade. For the same money though, you could also consider bikes like the Bajaj Pulsar N160 or lower trims of the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V.

    While TVS has done well in reviving the Apache RTR 160 2V with a fuel-injected motor, it could have done better by offering it a new bodywork and additional features, something it has done with the Apache RTR 160 4V and Apache RTR 200 4V. However, given the RTR 160 2V BS6’s low pricing, it is a viable and relevant stepping stone into the 160cc segment.

    My driving experience on rtr 160 has been really good only issue is a low clicking noise from the from the engine other than that its a good daily driver, If you chose to drive in range of 60-70 kmph.Speed and balanced performance.

    Bike is comfortable on long rides, Having 3 ride modes provide better power generation in city, Highway rides, Also a fixed speed ride mode in urban as in traffic to without changing throttle limit, So overall a good bike and as its a tvs company, Comfort is amazing as well as engine is refined so you'll like to revv the bike.
