TVS Apache Launch

TVS has launched the 2022 Apache RTR 160 and RTR 180 in India, making the bikes more attractive and relevant with modern features and sportier styling.

What’s The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?

The updated model is around Rs 4,000 more expensive than its predecessor and rivals the likes of the Bajaj Pulsar N160, Yamaha FZ-FI and Honda X-Blade in the 160cc segment.

On the other hand, the 2022 Apache RTR 180 is available only in one variant that is priced at Rs 1,30,590 (ex-showroom Delhi) and directly rivals the Honda Hornet 2.0. The updated RTR 180 comes at a premium of around Rs 10,000.

  • On the RTR 160, the power has been increased by 0.51PS, which now stands at 16.04PS, whereas the torque is now 13.85Nm, 0.05Nm less than its predecessor. However, it is 2kg lighter than the outgoing model.

  • For better durability, both Apache models are now driven by X-ring chains.
  • The 2022 TVS Apache 160 and RTR 180 get new styling and graphics, which make them appear a bit sportier than before.
  • Both bikes get redesigned headlights and taillight designs with LED units.

  • To load the bikes with segment-first features, the RTR 160 and 180 come equipped with three ride modes – Sport, Urban and Rain – as standard.
  • Both feature a new digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity and TVS’ SmartXonnect with voice assist. They come packed with turn-by-turn navigation, gear position indicator and shift assist, call and notification alerts, race telemetry and lap timer mode.
  • While the TVS SmartXonnect is standard on the updated Apache RTR 180, only the top-of-the-line 2022 RTR 160 gets the feature.
  • Increasing rider confidence is the wider 120mm rear tyre, as opposed to the previous 110mm section rear rubber, on both Apaches.

What's Unchanged?

  • While there are a bunch of changes with respect to the styling and graphics, the overall design of the bikes remains the same.
  • They also get the same underpinnings as before - telescopic fork and dual shock absorber suspension setup.
  • Discs at both ends are offered as standard on the RTR 180, whereas in the RTR 160, the base variant makes do with a drum brake.

ZigSays

With the new update packing smart features and ride modes, the TVS Apache RTR 160 and 180 are more relevant and attractive products in today's market, which ideally should increase TVS’ sales figures. However, we do think that they should have undergone some major changes design-wise so as to sport an even fresher look.
