Honda Introduces Jazz Select Edition

Vikram Gour 09 Mar 2010

Test Drive Honda Jazz

The Honda Jazz has managed to sound off all the right notes in India despite the initial outcry regarding its steep pricing.

It has proved that quality does prevail over quantity and the Jazz has gone on to do the numbers that Honda always envisioned for this premium hatchback. Commemorating this fact is the introduction of the 'Select Edition' Honda Jazz.

The Select Edition does not involve any engine changes and the vehicle continues to use the 1.2 litre i-VTEC engine mated to a five speed manual gearbox. The changes are purely cosmetic and the highlights include the addition of alloy wheels, a rear parcel shelf and the car now comes with front & rear mud guards, something that was missing even on the existing high end Jazz. With these extra features, the Select Edition Jazz now costs Rs. 7.21 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

With a premium pricing that is literally over and above that of some three box sedans, the Jazz has always been an expensive proposition and the Select Edition is now even more selective! Having said that, the Jazz is a large car that stylish, fuel efficient, safe and offers a great drive experience and has in some regard set off a new segment in the Indian market. As competition follows suit and India gets a new segment of premium hot hatches, the current flavour remains the Jazz!

The car is no doubt good but it is nonsensically priced. Figo is much better priced and is aslo fantastic cars. NEVER NEVER buy this car tat this price. Honda CANNOT take indians for the ride. Even other cars from honda in india are premium priced way above their price in rest of the world.MORCHA AGAINST HONDA!! | Reply

Honda is fooling people. I stay in Chandigarh where there are all sorts of cars and people are crazy about them.I have seen not more than 3 Jazz's till date.So if Honda thinks that Special Edition is for congratulating itself it is fooling none others than itself. | Reply

Jazz is an expensive Car, not worth for the price. HONDA CITY is the best choice. I don'tlike KOREAN CARS, they are perhaps the worst. I don't even touch them. | Reply

The Jazz is a very good car. I have being driving it for almost two years now in Australia. with the safety features and the car space as well as driving comfort it is worth the price how many of the earlier people who have commented on the pricing have actually used the car ?? and are putting in their comments purely on the pricing. I feel it is really value for money | Reply

Agree with you guys. Honda just cannot ask for mountain of money for a class or quality which is not even significantly, better. columnist should, be conscious of not be biased with any brand and should try and evaluate any brand / car based purely on merits. | Reply

I think Honda does overprice its cars. I recently looked at the Honda Fit (The Honda Jazz clone in the US) ... I thought the car was over priced, and under finished car. priced at around 7.5 Lakhs in the US. The car is was definite NO for me at least. I'd go for the Skoda Fabia. I actually bought a toyota corolla for the same price here.Honda overprices cars intentionally giving you the misnomer that they are premium cars when they are not! Dont get sucked by that BS ... | Reply

Honda should come out with a no frills Jazz version at a lower price, perhaps Rs.6lacs (ex-showroom) | Reply

Jazz already has no frills at 7.5 lacs. What else you want to remove from this car? Tyres perhaps. | Reply

Disappointed is the least i can tell about the pricing policy of Honda for Jazz as a product. The ideal price for Jazz should have been somewhere in the 5 to 5.5 lakhs bracket just above the Swift its direct competitor. But now Jazz has to contend with Ford Figo, VW Polo. Both of them are high on quality and value for money. As if this is not enough Skoda is coming out with Skoda Fabia Saloon with lot of cabin space in the 6-7 Lakhs category. Honda will have a tough time selling jazz just on the quality plank along. | Reply

Honda guys must be in delima to reduce plrice or not becoz when they launched the car they thought City popularity will attarct buyers to buy this Hatch at such higher priice, they forgot Indian very well know where to spend money. Now if they slash price it will be a very big blow for Honda brand in India. | Reply
  • Basav (15 March 2010 16:14)
If Jazz is realy wants to be in race, Honda people should reduce the price. Sales figures are throwing on the face Jazz's performance. | Reply

Honda ppl re taking Indians fo ra ride. As they had very good success with there CITY they are thinking they can sell anything at such steep price. If any one wanted to buy hatch back y would they purchase at such a high price. In fact they can settle with Fiat, Ford, Hyudai or Maruti. Why to buy a Hatch back at Sedan`s price | Reply

"It has proved that quality does prevail over quantity and the Jazz has gone on to do the numbers that Honda always envisioned for this premium hatchback."Is it a Honda press release or what?. WHat numbers are you talking about, feb 2010 sales at 233 speaks for itslef. Jazz is a sales dud. No doubt it is a good car but at that price there are other better options. Select edition with addition of alloys and others, well Honda became head strong with City success and they got the Jazz pricing completely wrong. Special editions won't sell this sales dud, either Honda correct the Jazz pricing or stop the production. And please stop putting these press releases as news item, your credibility will go down. | Reply

I totally agree with you . Do Honda ppl think they can price their car to any extent and the sales will grow jus because of Honda badge ?? Stupids ,,,, they are not only mistaken in their sales but they also induce others to increase the price of small cars ,,, please stop this rubbish honda .... | Reply
  • dr dinesh (11 March 2010 20:43)
They should cut the price of Jazz by at least 2 lakhs. Its too pricey. No wonder they sold only 233 units. With sales like this the resale values also will be very poor.Honda has got a flop on its hands | Reply

YOU DONT GET THE INTERIOR QUALITY AS LIKE AS POLO OR FABIA IN JAZZ. BUT BOTH THE CARS HAVE AN OUTDATED ENGINE. BUT HONDA PURELEY HAVE ADVANCED 1.2 ENGINES IN INDIA. BUT VW ALSO HAVE 1.2 TSI IN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES BUT NOT IN THE FABIA OR POLO SOLD IN INDIA. BUT THE JAZZ SALES IS GOING DOWN CONTINOUSLY...... | Reply

This step (select edition) is one of those to follow in near future.Honda have only two options left now, either stop production of JAZZ or price it correctly.......dont you agree Honda guys!!! | Reply
  • Subramanya (10 March 2010 11:58)
233 units of Jazz sold in Feb 2010. It is a surprising number. Too high for a car that is specced so wierdly. City seem to be value for money compared to Jazz. The styling of Jazz is also strange. Hond Should pull the plug on the Jazz. Why so serious? one life. HAHAHAHAH | Reply
  • Former Honda Fan (09 March 2010 23:04)
One can imagine Honda's frustration by having a look at the worst sales figures for Jazz in recent time :-June: Above 2000 Units- July: 1037 Units- August: 1029 Units- September: 504 UnitsIn January 2010 Honda managed to sell only 350 units of Jazz and the total number of cars produced were 1150. If Honda is so much determined on proving its quality class then why it doesn't ever compete with any of Germans like Volkswagen,Audi,BMW or Even Mercedes. If honda can produce even a single car which can beat any of these then Honda is right in its stratagies. Just compare VW Polo and Jazz apart from Interiors then see. by the way what's the point of proving quality while you're not even recovering your production cost for a car..............? | Reply
M KR (16 March 2010 13:28) Reply to Former Honda Fan
The numbers given by you indicate that these must be true. I am surprised even at these numbers. Honda should soon see their monthly numbers in two digits and it will be forced to start advertising "Sale by Invitation only!" to continue to justify the "Na-Ja(y)az" proce. Product wise Jazz is no better than outgoing Getz which is available for half the price. | Reply
