New Nissan Z Sports Car Teaser Confirms Manual Shifter; Debuts On September 16

The teaser also reveals more design elements, including a silhouette quite similar to the 370Z

  • The new Nissan Z sports car is still in prototype form, so we can expect it to launch by 2021

  • It will get a manual transmission, as evident from the manual shifter.

  • It will pay homage to the Z sports cars of yesteryears.

In yet another teaser, Nissan has gotten every petrolhead excited for the new Z. The new video confirms what was previously believed to be a manual shifter. Rumoured to be called the 400Z in its final production form, it promises to stay true to its roots by paying homage to the Z ancestry.

The Japanese carmaker claims that the new Z is designed with a blend of “a retro theme with modern technology”. That is pretty evident as the latest teaser reveals more of the design, like the silhouette which bears a striking resemblance to the 370Z, and the new Z logo’s placement on the rear pillar.

Even the headlights are inspired by those on the Nissan Fairlady Z/Datsun 240Z, whereas the taillights are quite similar to the ones on the 300ZX. The new design is set to pay homage to the 50-year old prestige of the Z tag that comes with the sportscar.

Technical specifications are still under the wraps, though speculation regarding the engines is neverending. The transmission options obviously see the inclusion of a manual gearbox, but an automatic transmission is on the cards as well.

All set to be revealed on September 16, the new Z will probably reach our shores in 2021 considering this is still a prototype. Currently, only one Nissan sports car is up for sale in India: the GT-R (Rs 2.12 crore).
