Lexus yields fresh air for every car sold in India

Lexus India has announced a reforestation initiative aimed at reducing the carbon footprint in India. Under this initiative, the brand has already started planting trees for every Lexus sold in the country, starting August 2017. This is Lexus’ attempt to neutralize the effects of increasing pollution in the country.

To make this initiative widespread, the brand's dealerships and service centres across the country have been allocated different areas. Delhi and Gurugram dealerships, along with the service centre in Chandigarh, will be planting trees at the periphery of the Sitamata Sanctuary in Rajasthan, while in the western region, the Mumbai dealership will be responsible for planting trees in Amravati and Nimbora in Maharashtra. The reforestation will be done with the help of grow-trees.com. The dealership in Bangaluru with the service centres in Hyderabad, Cochin, and Chennai will be planting trees at the Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s manufacturing facility in Bidadi, Karnataka.

Akitoshi Takemura, President, Lexus India, said, “This initiative is a significant milestone in Lexus’ commitment to India since our launch in March this year. It is a commitment towards building a better planet for the future generations. Planting a tree enables us to mitigate the impact of carbon emissions. Additionally, involving our guests in this initiative fosters better living and building stronger communities that care for the environment.”

“At Lexus, it is not just our cars that define us. It is also how our automobiles can shape a better tomorrow. We are dedicated to discovering newer aspects of sustainability in order to maximize our contribution towards a cleaner and greener environment. We have ambitious environmental goals globally and this green initiative in India is a special one as it also involves our guests in Lexus India’s pledge to a better future,” he added.

Earlier this month, Lexus parted ways with Toyota Kirloskar Motors to operate as an individual brand under the name Lexus India, touting the company for further growth in the country. Currently, Lexus has three models in its Indian lineup, which includes the Lexus RX 450h hybrid SUV, Lexus LX 450d diesel SUV, and a hybrid sedan named the Lexus ES300h. If only Maruti commits to planting a tree for every car, we'd negate deforestation.
