Harley-Davidson Comes Up With A Street Rod Drag Racer

Harley-Davidson has turned their Street Rod 750 into a drag bike. This drag-pepped bike comes with a hoard of modifications over the stock bike. It gets new bodywork and the incorporation of wheelie bar. The drag bikes were ridden by racers Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec who competed in the first event at the Summernationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park. The bikes competed in the pro-stock motorcycle class (a segment of race bikes which gives a very high leeway for modification of the motorcycles). Talking about performance, the drag bike managed to  dismiss the 400 metre run in just 6.870 seconds! Read our Street Rod 750 review here.

The stock Street Rod 750 is powered by a 749cc V-twin engine which develops a peak torque of 65Nm. The bike is shod with Michelin Scorcher 120/70 R17 tyre at the front and 160/60 R17 tyre at the rear on 7-split open spoke cast aluminium wheels and weighs 229kg. Suspension duties are handled by 43mm USD forks at the front and dual coiled springs at the rear. Seat height is low at 765mm to suit riders of shorter stance. It gets two 300mm disc rotors with 2 piston calipers at the front and 230mm disc rotor with 2-piston caliper at the rear.

Commenting on the bike, Harley-Davidson’s Screaming Eagle/Vance & Hines crew chief, Matt Hines, said, "The launch of the new Street Rod motorcycle was the perfect opportunity to give our championship winning drag bikes new bones. We used CAD and other digital tools to design a new chassis that minimizes weight while maximizing strength and rigidity. Track testing confirmed that the new bikes are aerodynamically sound and these new bikes run as great as they look with the sleek new body."
