TVS is working on an updated version of its Apache RTR 160 4V. A test mule of the upcoming second-generation bike was spotted on our roads. The new bike has quite a few cosmetic updates, chief among them being a new headlamp. There is a strong possibility of this being an LED unit given that 160cc segment bikes like the Honda CB Hornet 160R, Yamaha FZ-FI V3 and most recently the 2019 Suzuki Gixxer 150 have been equipped with LED headlamps.

Among the updates, we expect the new motor to be BS6 compliant in order to be ready to meet the upcoming norms that kick in next year. The current Apache RTR 160 4V has an 159.7cc air-cooled motor that comes in fuel-injected and carburetted variants. We expect the more emission friendly fuel-injected version to feature in the upcoming RTR 160 4V. This motor makes 16.8PS of power and 14.8Nm of torque but could have slightly different outputs in the upcoming bike.

The test mule seems to carry the same underpinnings of the current Apache and we do not expect it to be updated either. The Apache RTR 160 4V’s Showa-tuned forks and monoshock are one of the best setups we have seen on smaller bikes.

Given the new updates, we expect the upcoming Apache RTR 160 4V to be priced at a premium of Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000 over the current FI ABS bike that costs Rs 99,101 (ex-showroom Delhi). Since the test mule looks production-ready, we expect the new bike to be launched as early as the Diwali festive season.
