Damon Unveils Its First Electric Naked


Called the Damon HyperFighter Colossus, this 200PS naked offers a 234km combined claimed range

  • Damon Motorcycles, a Canadian electric startup, has unveiled its second electric bike, the Damon HyperFighter Colossus at the 2022 CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas. It is priced at USD 35,000 (manufacturer-suggested retail price, translating to around Rs 26 lakh). There are two more affordable variants, called the HyperFighter Unlimited 20 and Unlimited 15, both offering less power and range, priced at USD 25,000 (around Rs 18.57 lakh) and USD 19,000 (about Rs 14.11 lakh) respectively.

    Staying true to its name, the Damon HyperFighter Colossus comes with some colossal claims on the spec sheet. Its permanent magnet AC liquid-cooled motor churns out an insane 200PS and an equally impressive 200+Nm. This propels the naked from 0-96kmph in under 3 seconds. The motor is linked to a 20kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers a claimed combined range of 234km, and is capable of charging up to 80 percent in 45 minutes using a level 3 DC fast charger. It takes 15 hours to achieve up to 90 percent using a 110V Level 1 charger.

    To keep the power in check, you’ve got multiple riding modes, traction control, and a unique CoPilot 360-degree warning system that uses a combination of front and rear cameras, radar, non-visual and force sensors to alert the rider of any dangers through haptic feedback on the handlebars. Of course, you also get smartphone integration, and over the air (OTA) updates as standard. 

    The monocoque frame employs premium inverted front fork and rear linked monoshock from Ohlins; and braking is via twin front petal discs with radial Brembo calipers, and a rear petal disc. Then there’s the carbon wheels with sticky Pirelli Supercorsa tyres for optimum performance. 

    Oh, and the best bit is that it comes with a two-level (Sport/ Commuter modes) variable ergonomics tech, called ‘Shift,’ that can be switched on the fly. The handlebar is capable of automatically raising or lowering, and the footpegs are also capable of moving towards the front or the rear. This should go a long way in making the motorcycle perfect for both commuting and corner carving. 

    Damon’s first product was the Damon Hypersport HS, unveiled at the 2020 CES. The faired bike costs around Rs 3.71 lakh more than the new naked one. The company has made the perfect naked alternative to the HyperSport HS, with all the unique bells and whistles that it is known for. But of course, it also demands a proper premium. But then the best thing about electric motorcycles is that you won’t be spending a ton of money on fuel and regular maintenance anymore. Plus, you simply can’t put a price on the moral high ground that comes with using a green motorcycle.
