Stuart Oliver wins second season of Tata T1 Prima Truck Racing Championship

Ten times British Truck Racing Champion Stuart Oliver maintains his supremacy at the T1 Prima Truck Racing Series by clinching the title for the second consecutive year. The Tata one make truck racing series was held at the Buddh International Circuit in Greater Noida on March 14-15, 2015. 

This year’s championship garnered a lot more attention as a massive count of over 45,000 spectators were greeted to plenty of action on a wet track. The skies burst open in untimely March weather and with it, gave 12 race prepped T1 Primas just the right slippery conditions to make it an exciting race to the finish. Over the 16 laps of the short loop of the Buddh Circuit, Stuart Oliver held the lead throughout but not with ease. 

Oliver had to defend the position from the word go as Steve Thomas of team Allied Partners kept prodding all through the race. The Castrol Vecton driver won the race by 0.7 seconds at the end of 16 laps with Thomas coming in second and Steven Powell of the Tata Technologies team coming in a close third. Oliver also posted the fasted lap of the race with a time of 1:55.230. 

While Oliver and Steve Thomas were in a race of their own followed by Powell in third, there was plenty of action at the back of the pack as well. The slippery conditions made braking these behemoths tougher and this led to a lot of contact all along the race. On the tenth lap, Dealer Daredevils driver Paul McCumisky’s race came to a premature end as he careened into the barriers possibly after contact to another truck just before the penultimate corner.

The T1 Prima race trucks are powered by a Cummins 8.9-litre diesel engine developing 375PS of power and a colossal 1550Nm of torque. They can reach a top speed of over 130kmph, and while you might think that’s not fast on a track, consider over five tonnes of mass barreling down a staright or drifting out of corners.
