Spy Shots: Is This Jeep’s Future Vehicle Line-Up?

The pictures give a good hint about the 2018 Jeep Wrangler and the all-new Wagoneer

Dealer meets are funny, especially the ‘secret’ ones. And, in the so-called secret ones, there is a high risk that the dealer personnel themselves might spill the beans. This is because the officials in a dealership and their associates are far less experienced in the art of secrecy than the engineers who work in the confines of an obscure manufacturing facility. The last one I recall was the Maruti Swift, whose pictures were leaked at Suzuki’s European dealer meet. The latest one, though, is allegedly from America and the manufacturer is Jeep.

The blurry images that you see here are said to be of the next generation of Jeep’s portfolio. The pictures were supposedly snapped by a dealer or a visitor who was probably a James Bond fan and thought the internet was MI6. Well, thanks to him/her, we now have some idea about next-gen Jeep vehicles.

From left to right, you can see the Renegade, Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee and the Wagoneer. It is evident that the upper row is the front view, while the one below is the rear view of the corresponding front profile.

The most interesting vehicles in this spy shot are the 2018 Jeep Wrangler and the Wagoneer. Both the vehicles are highly anticipated and will carry the latest technology in terms of engine, drivetrain, interiors and exteriors. The next-gen Wrangler, however, will see fewer exterior changes and the layout will be more or less the same as the current one. That’s not bad at all, since the classic appeal of the Jeep will remain intact. One can also spot the ‘X’-shaped tail lamp units, which we have seen on the current-gen Renegade as well.

On the other hand, the Jeep Wagoneer, which will be the company’s new flagship vehicle, sitting above the Grand Cherokee, looks like an angry, don’t-mess-with-me SUV. You can notice the discrete seven-dot LED daytime running lamps, and extensive use of chrome components, along with a very wide front fascia. So much so that the Grand Cherokee placed beside seems completely dwarfed in the presence of the giant-like Wagoneer. And anybody who has seen the Grand Cherokee knows that it is a sufficiently big SUV in itself.

Jeep officials have in the past hinted that the Wagoneer might be priced between $130000-$140000 (roughly Rs 86 to 94 lakh, without duties). Also, the Wagoneer may also have a top-of-the-line variant dubbed the Grand Wagoneer.

With the Jeep brand’s plans to expand in India, there’s a good possibility that these future Jeep vehicles will land on our shores. How soon? Well, not before 2018 in the Wrangler’s case and, for the Wagoneer, not before 2019. Other than that, the Jeep Compass – which was unveiled a few weeks ago and is missing from the pictures above – is expected to be launched in the country way before these two in mid-2017.
