After acquiring 51 per cent controlling stake in Peugeot Motorcycles last year the company now seems to be aiming at the premium segment of the two-wheeler market
Mahindra Two-Wheelers Limited (MTWL) has been in the industry for quite some time now. The company has introduced products like the Centuro and the Gusto that did have initial momentum but somehow have not been able to keep up in the long run. The Mojo, which falls in the entry-level performance motorcycle category, seems to be making decent numbers but not as expected by the company. Now, along with reports of Mahindra aiming at the premium segment of two-wheelers, the company is likely to introduce Peugeot scooters in India by 2017.

Mahindra has acquired a 51 per cent controlling stake in Peugeot scooters last year. Following that, the company had three Peugeot offering on display at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo. The showcased vehicles consisted of the Django and the Speedfight, both two wheelers, while the third was the Metropolis, a three-wheel scooter. With these scooters currently being sold in Europe, Mahindra, if it were to bring these scooters to India, will introduce then in the premium two-wheeler segment.
In India, the only competition for Peugeot scooters will be from Piaggio with its Vespa scooters. However, considering the prices of these Peugeot scooters in Europe, the scooters will still be costlier by a great margin even if half of its cost is to be considered. Considering this, Mahindra needs to have the prices set right in order to have these premium scooters accepted well in the market.
