2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 price and specs revealed

Yamaha had already unveiled its 2017 YZF-R6 which looks significantly similar to its elder sibling, the YZF-R1. Now, the company has revealed the specifications along with the price of its much-awaited middleweight supersport. The bike will reach dealerships by mid-April with a price tag of £10,999 (around INR 8.99 lakh) in the UK, while the price in the US will be slightly lower at $12,199 (around INR 7.98 lakh).

Talking about the technical specifications of the 2017 R6, the new 599cc inline-four offers a power output of 118.4PS at 14,500rpm and delivers a peak torque of 61.7Nm at 10,500rpm. The high revving engine is compliant with the stringent Euro-4 emission standards and gets the most advanced electronic aids ever seen on the R6. The motor comes mated to a close ratio six-speed gearbox that gets a new Quick Shift System (QSS) to allow full throttle clutchless upshifts.

Along with the best ever aerodynamics, the new R6 gets a six-level Traction Control System (TCS) that allows you to select different modes according to the riding conditions. The bike now looks sharper than ever with the new LED headlamps. The bike's styling is razor sharp with the LED headlights set in the fairing. The front air intake adds further to the looks making it resemble a MotoGP bike.

The fully adjustable suspension setup is provided by KYB and includes 3-way adjustable 43mm front forks and 4-way adjustable rear monoshock. The performance braking is handled by dual 320mm discs at the front with 4-pot calipers and ABS.

Yamaha has also developed a wide range of genuine accessories for the new YZF-R6 including some non-street-legal components so that the owner can enhance the performance of the machine for track days. Moreover, there is the My Garage app which allows you to build and view your YZF-R6 on a tablet or smartphone using the offered accessories.

Looking at the price of the motorcycle, it looks a bit costlier as compared to its competitors, such as the Honda CBR600RR ($11,799) and the Suzuki GSX-R600 ($11,199), which produces 119PS and 126PS respectively. However, the 2017 ABS model of another rival, the Kawasaki ZX-6R, costs slightly more than the R6 with a price tag of $12,699 (around Rs 8.3 lakh).
