The SUV will make its debut before the 2023 festive season
Japanese carmaker Honda has a new India-specific, mass market SUV in the pipeline and we’ve got wind of the fact that it’s in its final stages of development. The SUV is set to debut ahead of the festive season in 2023.

While the carmaker hasn’t revealed the specs or even the size, and thereby the segment in which it will compete, of its upcoming SUV, it will be more reasonably priced than Honda’s last true SUV in India, the CR-V. It should be compact-sized, rivalling SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Once the final development is completed, the carmaker will begin prepping its production facility in Tapukara, Rajasthan, to manufacture the SUV.
Expected features and drivetrains
The upcoming Honda SUV should be equipped with petrol powertrains. Similar to the City sedan, it might even get a strong-hybrid version with a 1.5-litre Atkinson cycle engine and e-CVT combination. Honda doesn’t seem to be all too keen on diesels, so it shouldn’t be a surprise if the SUV passes on an oil burner in favour of the aforementioned strong-hybrid.
Given the segment it’s likely to be aimed at, the SUV should be well-equipped with features such as a sunroof, premium audio system, connected car tech, six airbags and ventilated front seats.
