The Ritz is a premium hatchback that follows the tallboy design philosophy. It is the latest addition to MSIL's small car line up in India and from the looks of it; the Ritz is all set to give the A2 segment a boost.

To be launched in both petrol and diesel versions, the Ritz will be the first passenger car in India to be compliant with the BS-IV emission norms. The petrol engine is the brand new K series 1.2 litre four cylinder unit that develops 85 Ps and the diesel unit is the 1.3 DDiS unit that already does duty under the Swift diesel's bonnet. As expected, the diesel will dominate the sales charts.

The Ritz is MSIL's eighth new model within 48 months and in the A2 segment, it will be the 7th offering from the Maruti stable.

AStar looks better than this, especially suitable to lady drivers. Ritz is for whom? being BS4 ready alone won't help it survive in this design sensitive market. For males, its only SX4 and Swift doing the right business, that too with long waiting list. Wake-up time for MSIL designers. Right ? | Reply

It's hard to assess the looks of an car unless we see it practically. It seems like Ritz comes muscular and flair enough to impress Indian customers. It's thousand times better looking than practically successfull Wagon-R, which totally lacks the proportions and sexy curves in design. | Reply

The design seems to be good and seems like this would be a replacement for WagonR. But what is the point in launching newer diesel models when they are not able to deliver the current models. Heard there is still several months of waiting list fro Swift diesel and Dizire diesel, by the time the waiting lists are cleared, the models would loose its sheen. They should try to ramp up the engine production as well | Reply

It seems Maruti still is unable to decide between what clothes need to be worn at a party, wheras the party beingning to be over. I hope it is not taking any lessons from Bajaj who have been changing models after models just by switching ones lamp and petrol tank with other. Its near to an end of Maruti Monoploy | Reply

will the MSIL ever think of better shapes...going backwards in adopting shapes while every other companies are improvising with sleeker n smarter shapes... it seems like an old content with a new packing and new name. | Reply
  • Raj (09 May 2009 13:52)
I don't know what has happened to MSIL. The new designs of the cars starting from Swift to ASTAR-1 are not attractive at all. Others may disagree but the shapes are hayward from the smart looking 800, ZEN, Esteem etc. Whereas Hyundai and TATA have improvised their looks. | Reply

It may have good feature, but the design looks like combination of Santro tata nano i 10. It is like anu malik is making new song after stealing the rythm and words from others song. Hope the price is competitive and affordable to the aam aadmi, like tata nano did. rest wait till it is launched | Reply

It will be placed between wagon r and swift, as said ny officials in newspaper. has got good features but the rear part is not as good as it can be, i have seen it in autoexpo, front is amazing, lets hope it will perform as desired and will not be a burden on customer's pocket in regard of milage etc.. best of luck to maruti for ots launch......... | Reply
