Volvo XC60 Getting Ready for India!

Buying a car ? Get Best Deal

Volvo Auto India is working fast to bring in their new generation cross over, the XC60, into the Indian market. The car has already arrived in India and has been sent for homologation.

The Volvo XC60 is scheduled for a launch in the first half of 2010 and is touted to be one of the safest cars across all categories. Volvo India is not just excited about the new model, for this new entrant also spells the beginning of a new game plan for the company in India. According the Paul de Voijs, Managing Director, Volvo Auto India, the brand has taken its time to set its foundation in the last two years and now with the XC60 the company is looking at strengthening their market position by having more on offer in terms of an overall product line up.

Cross-overs have been welcomed in the Indian market and other brands have been enjoying this market space. Volvo Auto India is keen on capitalizing on this segment and there is no doubting the fact that the XC60 has all the elements to make it a winner. Pricing still plays a big role and this is where Volvo will truly have to score in order to break into the market.

WOW,is the first thing that comes into my mind when I see this classy and sleek sweedish SUV from Volvo,I'm very sure that when it sets wheels on Indian tarmac its going to beat out the Audi Q5,BMW X3 and the Land Rover Freelander 2.And I'll be very happy for Volvo. | Reply

By all means Volvo is the epitomy of safety in automobile use. Most manufacturers build vehicles keeping luxury as prime focus. Volvo always focuses on safety first.... This is the reason many of their earlier vehicles lacked in taste and finesse. But the XC60 is a hands down winner!!! I drive a XC90 and know I am SAFE when I am in it. For all you enthusiasts..... try toppling a XC90 while driving.... Betcha money it cannot be done! | Reply

You fricking moron - if I spend tens of lakhs to buy a good car, I'm not going to even try to topple it... Anyway, while the XC60 has good build, the diesel version has a top speed of 200. I couldn't coax anything more out of it - even on a downhill - while vacationing in Europe. | Reply

volvo cars come as CBU (Completely Built Units). So high import tax is laid down on customers. Either India must reduce the import tax on these luxury foreign vehicles or volvo should built them in India to reduce the cost. | Reply
Joel (22 March 2010 14:42) Reply to ponti
Simple..... If luxury comes at a price.... luxury added with high levels of safety should be even more expensive!! | Reply

I have a VOLVO S 80; bought a fully loaded model in Moscow for US$ 64,000. It is probably the best car that I have driven - the layout of interiors and small details is amazingly thougtful. Gives u feeling of incredible comfort and first class safety. However, it's not as fast as the BMW's or the AUDI's. Yet, this car doesn't catch attention of undesirable people - it is not zhaling. | Reply

People are commenting as if they know all about cars and driven all cars and crash tested all cars themselves. I did not do it as well. However, I have test driven and went through the reviews (who test them). The price vs value (with add-ons etc). Volvo looks far better than BMW and AUDI. | Reply

Hello Smll Correcttion.....Initally VOLVO Cars is part of AB VOLVO company- sweeden . then AB VOLVO sold its car business to Ford...where in Ford sell these cars with VOLVO brand it self Later Ford sold it to Geely due to financial criese at ford | Reply

U SAID THE SAME THING DUDE...THOUGH WITH MUCH POORER GRAMMER...As talking of Volvo cars, yes they are safe...but no they are not exiting to drive and look quite bland. At that price point you expect a lot more in terms of performance and packaging- looks. And yes...its a crossover here...not a SUV. These are two completely different segments.

I drive Volvo XC 60 T6, it is an exceptional vehicle with unparallel security features like city safe. I paid around AU$72,000 with loads of extras such a panoramic sunroof, sat nav system etc. I was about to buy Audi Q5 but later changed my mind and bought XC60 and I think I made the right choice (even though Q5 is also a great vehicle but for me security is of paramount importance and no one matches Volvo when it come to vehicle security). BTW, I paid AU$72,000.
