ZigWheels has learnt that Indian Motorcycle will inaugurate its second dealership at Bangalore. The new Indian dealership will be based in the Bangalore, Karnataka. The Bangalore showroom will be the second dealership of the brand in our country, first being the store in Gurgaon that was started in May 2014. The new dealership in Bangalore will commence sales for the entire range of motorcycles from the American bikemaker in our two-wheeler market. The bikes on sale include the India Scout, Classic, Vintage and Chieftain. The cheapest offering is the Indian Scout priced at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) whereas the Indian Chieftain is the most expensive at Rs 33 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The Bangalore dealership will be inaugurated by second week of February and it will act as a touch point for customers in the southern region of our country. Indian Motorcycle also plans to set shop in Mumbai by late February and it will be the third dealership for the American bikemaker in India.
Indian Motorcycle has a rich heritage in the two-wheeler industry and it is the first American two-wheeler manufacturer as it was established in 1901. A number of organisations tried to resurrect the Indian brand with little success over the years until 2011, when Polaris Industries acquired it. Polaris Industries, better known in India for its All-Terrain Vehicles are responsible for bringing the admired marque to our country. Unlike its traditional rival Harley-Davidson, Indian Motorcycle has no immediate plans of localisation and will be importing its motorcycle range via the Completely Built Units (CBU) route and hence will attract hefty duties in India.
