Expert's Conclusion
The Yamaha FZ ticks all the right boxes when it comes to a muscular yet comfortable commuter. If you’re okay with dull performance as long as it delivers brilliantly on frugality and reliability, look no further. But there are more exciting, more affordable, and more feature-packed options out there.
Yamaha FZ-FI V3 Expert Review
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 is a premium 150cc commuter from the Japanese manufacturer. It is the third-generation model from the Yamaha FZ range, offered alongside the new fourth-generation model, the Yamaha FZ-S FI V4. Let's see how it performs:
Design
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 has a front-heavy look thanks to the muscular fuel tank, big tank shrouds, and sporty headlight. The tail section is relatively slim and is complemented by the stubby exhaust and tyre hugger. Overall, the design is quite clean and the graphics are not overdone either. The FZ-S FI V3 also received an updated range of colours for 2024, it is now available in three colours including Matte Grey, Matte Red, and Dark Knight. However, the build quality could have been better as the panels have uneven gaps at certain places, and the switches feel cheap.
Engine, Mileage & Performance
The FZ-S FI V3 is equipped with a 149cc air-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 12.4PS and 13.3Nm, paired with a five-speed gearbox. The FZ-S FI V3 focuses more on providing good mileage than powerful performance. While it may not offer excellent acceleration, it provides plenty of torque in the mid-range, with most power available between 4000 and 7000 rpm. However, its performance drops off after that. The short gear ratios make it excellent for city commuting, offering a lot of usable acceleration. Our real-world mileage tests showed it gives around 49.31kmpl in the city and 55.42kmpl on the highway.
Handling & Ride Quality
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 is quite nice at handling. It is very agile, making it good at quick turns. The bike feels planted while leaning. Moreover, the chassis and suspension provide confidence whether you are riding around the corners or filtering through city traffic.
The suspension effectively absorbs bumps and potholes, while the slightly sporty riding posture helps in controlling the bike. Additionally, the brakes offer a strong bite, enhancing the overall ride quality.
Comfort
The FZ-S FI V3 comes with a well-cushioned single-piece seat. While it has easy-to-reach handlebars, the footpegs are slightly rear-set, resulting in a slightly sporty yet comfortable riding position. With a seat height of 790mm, it is suitable for shorter riders while tall riders can sit comfortably too. It has a kerb weight of 135kg, making it easy to manoeuvre or park.
Features
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3’s LED headlight provides a decent throw, though a brighter headlight would have been better. The bike features a full LCD instrument console displaying readings like a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, and other essential information. The layout is clean and easy to read. Additionally, it offers Bluetooth connectivity via the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect app. That said, it lacks turn-by-turn navigation, which would have been useful for daily commutes.
Should You Buy The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3?
The Yamaha FZ-S FI V3 leans more towards being a commuter rather than a sporty bike. The frugal 150cc engine, combined with its sporty yet relaxed riding position and styling, make it an excellent commuter bike with a touch of sportiness. However, if you are looking for a properly sporty 150-160cc bike, then you might want to look somewhere else, like the Yamaha MT-15 V2.

Overall this a great bike
Overall at the time when I purchased it on 30th May 2022, it was a value for the money kind. But after that when Yamaha increased the price day by day it doesn't feel like the proper value-for-money product. Now comes to build quality, the finishing isn't good (like the cut where they place the Bluetooth device that's like so rough it feels like some kid has done the job), and the tank joints feel flimsy. About riding comfort, I'd say the rider seat is pretty much comfortable for short and long rides but the pillion seat could have been better. About mileage, I have got 50-53+ kmpl combined with high road and bad city traffic, which is a pretty good number. And even when on a high road I mostly ride at like above 80+ mph speed which speed is out of its 'eco' category, So no complaint with the mileage. About performance 12 bhp mostly feels pretty low but that's okay I guess as we can't do anything about that. But the gearbox is something I don't like at all mainly between 1st and 2nd gear there's a huge power gap. Also when downshifting from 2nd to 1st gear it feels like something will break inside. Have checked with the service center they mentioned there's no problem with my bike which means all these models are like same weird. About servicing the service center is pretty clean and the mechanics are also good but a few staff is too weird here. I have completed 3 services to change engine oil all the time. The first 2 services were costly, Both coats were more than 1.1k. For the 3rd service, it became lower to 614/- as I denied to do chain cleaning, polishing, and fine cleaning. Chain cleaning can be self which costs far less than the service center at least. That's pretty much it, Overall if someone is buying his first bike like me then it will not disappoint in terms of reliability, and looks(for looks I have the black and golden combination deluxe version and noticed that many people look back too so what the bike is. Yes, There's also another factor for me that I have installed a crash guard which makes the bike looks more aggressive) and mileage. But if someone is upgrading from another bike to this then it won't feel much of a difference.

Awesome Bike
It is greater than its rivals and is the greatest bicycle in its section with extraordinary form quality however the plan isn't excellent. It is a decent entertainer and eco-friendly and gives wonderful riding and taking care of equilibrium however terrible front light quality. The brakes are astounding and the motor is refined and strong yet with an underpowered motor. It is extremely simple to ride and gives great mileage and the asserted mileage is around 45 km. It gives new elements and innovation and gives splendid mid-range execution. Due to the viable conveniences it gives, this model has a specific spot in my heart. This model requests to me as a result of the relative multitude of great elements it very well may be reached out to incorporate. The Yamaha FZ-FI V3's rugged mix of hostility and capacity makes it conceivable to find community savagery. This model's ability to pass has since a long time ago established a connection with me.

I have been owning one fzs
I have been owning one fzs v3 for quite a while now. It's just a very good motorcycle in its segment. Talking of the mileage it's approx 45kmpl, Power is good for the city and feels a bit laggy out there on the highways. I didn't have to use it much on the highways, Everything like the body balance is awesome, and The sitting position is quite comfortable both for rider and pillion. I think the lights could have been a bit more powerful but still does the job. Maintaining this is not at all a weight on your pocket. After 10k km you will need to change the chain sprocket kit which will increase the cost and brake pads used to cost a ton so better to go for after-market brake pads. Simply summarising great value for money just a 2-3 bhp increase would have made it the best one in the segment, Very pocket friendly, Good for Indian roads as brakes and suspension are tuned very nicely, And last a pro tip if you want to buy it just go for it.

Timeless Style, Modern Performance
Yamaha FZ-FI V3 remains unchanged with its stylish looks which is a perfect example of classic-modern look and its fast-wide running, and as evident in the number of riders selecting it as their choice, this motorcycle is a perfect example of a fusion between classic and modern concept. Its sporty character with its larger fuel tank, LED headlight, and aggressive design usually announces a rider with a high sense of self-belief and power. A refined 149cc engine with fuel injection gives power and torque in the speed range of the bike ensuring smooth and really responsive performance perfect for daily city commuters and those who would love a weekend ride. From the FZ-FI V3's comfortable riding characteristics, such as the upright seating position, a well-padded seat to the contoured handlebars and footpegs which provide extra support for the rider's feet, it prioritizes the comfort of its rider.
