Maruti Suzuki's Vitara Brezza, is the only compact SUV from the Japanese carmaker in the Indian market right now. The car was launched earlier this year, in March, and has already received over one lakh bookings in India. Notably, it recently crossed the 50,000 sales milestone in the country. The fact that Maruti was able to achieve this sales figure in just 7 months, shows the kind of popularity and demand that the compact SUV has.
In a recent statement released by the company announcing the Baleno's sales crossing the one lakh mark, R. S. Kalsi, Maruti's Executive Director Marketing and Sales, said: "We have optimised our production so that we can deliver their cars in the committed timeframe while ensuring the highest levels of quality." Maruti Suzuki intends to commence test production of the Baleno hatchback at its upcoming facility in Hansalpur, Gujarat from the first quarter of 2017. This test production will not only bring down the waiting period for the Baleno and the Vitara Brezza but will also help in shedding the production load off its plants in Gurgaon and Manesar.
The Brezza currently comes with a waiting period of about 4-5 months, depending on the variants. And as per Maruti, the large amount of the bookings that are being received are for the top-of-the-line ZDI+ variants with dual tone colour.
Mechanically, the Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged diesel engine, that produces 90PS of power and 200Nm of peak torque. The power is transmitted to the front wheels which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Furthermore, the compact SUV is also set to come in a petrol version in the coming future.
