About Mahindra
History
Mahindra is an Indian automaker that has been building cars, primarily SUVs, for the subcontinent ever since the first Willys Jeeps arrived in the 1950s. It has a legacy of building tough, diesel-powered utility vehicles, such as the CJ-series Jeeps and the Thar. Mahindra’s cars have always been popular people movers in India for the value they offer in their go-anywhere capability and price.
Four-wheel drive lies at the roots of Mahindra’s history -- it started out by assembling 4x4 Willy’s Jeeps and later developed its own off-roading vehicles and hardware such as transmissions and transfer cases. Over the years Mahindra has given us a score of memorable and capable off-roaders and family SUVs in India, at different price points across multiple segments.
Product portfolio
Micro SUV: Mahindra offers the KUV100 NXT micro-SUV in India. It’s a raised-up hatchback with an 82PS 1.2-litre petrol engine that rivals the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.
SUVs: Utility vehicles dominate the Mahindra lineup, with legacy models such as the Bolero and Scorpio still on offer. The range starts with the XUV300 sub-4m SUV, and comprises the Bolero Neo, XUV700, Thar and Alturas G4 SUVs.
People movers: Legacy Mahindra models have long served as a staple in rural areas where they are still used as people carriers. Nowadays, the carmaker offers the Marazzo MPV in 6- and 7-seater layouts as a relatively premium rival to the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
Electric vehicle: Mahindra Electric has been developing EVs for more than two decades in India. Currently, the carmaker offers the eVerito electric sedan in India.
Greatest Hits
Mahindra’s top five products in India have been:
Mahindra Scorpio: first all-new global SUV from Mahindra
Mahindra Bolero: rugged utility vehicle that’s so indispensable that it’s still on sale today
Mahindra XUV500: first monocoque-based Mahindra SUV
Mahindra Thar: Initiated the Indian market to lifestyle SUVs with a relatively affordable civilian jeep
Mahindra XUV700: First Indian car to feature advanced driver assistance and active safety technologies
Bonus: Mahindra e2O: first EV from a mainstream Indian carmaker
Future Plans:
Currently, given the nascent market for EVs in India, Mahindra only offers the eVerito electric sedan. But the lineup is set to grow with the arrival of the eKUV100 and XUV300 mass-market electric SUVs. In addition, Mahindra plans to introduce the next-generation Scorpio SUV, 5-door Thar and multiple other SUVs in the near future.

Thar4.3551 reviewsMahindra Thar: The Off-Road King
Ever since I got my hands on the Mahindra Thar, it has been an exhilarating journey of discovering landscapes I never thought I would explore. This beast, with its 2.2 liter mHawk diesel engine pushing out 130hp is unapologetically powerful and ready to tackle the most challenging terrains. The 4x4 capability makes it a dream for off road enthusiasts like myself. However, driving through city traffic in the Thar is where the romance slightly fades. The heavy steering and the firm suspension setup, while perfect for rugged terrains and uncomfortable on urban roads.

Scorpio4.4248 reviewsRugged Charm Meets Modern Needs
The Mahindra Scorpio has been with me for a year now and it has been an adventure from the get go. It has the rugged looks and commanding road presence that won me over initially. Powered by a 2.2 liter diesel engine that churns out 140 horsepower, it got enough power for both city driving and off road escapades. The ride can get bouncy, especially on poor roads and handling is not its strongest suit reflecting its age old design philosophy. Mahindra has made efforts to modernize the Scorpio with a touchscreen infotainment system and reverse parking camera.

XUV3004.3443 reviewsCompact Yet Mighty: Driving the Mahindra XUV300
My journey through different vehicles also had me to try steering the Mahindra XUV300, a compact SUV that punches above its weight. Its 1.5 liter diesel engine pushes out 115 PS of power and 300Nm of torque makes it a powerful companion in the city rides. The XUV300 is packed with features, offering excellent value for money. Its safety ratings are commendable and the car's handling is sharp makes driving a pleasure. However, the boot space was a letdown, struggling to carry luggage for family weekend trips.

XUV400 EV4.4143 reviewsLoving My Mahindra XUV400 EV Adventure
After eagerly waiting for the launch, I recently got my hands on the Mahindra XUV400 EV and it has been an exciting few months driving this electric beauty around. The power and acceleration are surprisingly quick for an EV, with the motor producing up to 150PS and enabling a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.5 seconds. The eco friendly aspect, combined with the savings on fuel is a big plus in today's world. The range of approximately 456 km on a single charge as per ARAI is more than adequate for my daily city drives and some weekend getaways without range anxiety.
