On October 25, London-based Shetty started from Alexandra Park, London on his Suzuki Hayabusa and will attempt to reach Bangalore on November 18. He covered over 700 kilometres on the first day of his ride and rolled into Stuttgart, Germany. His route will take him across Germany, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Iran, Pakistan and finally India.
This however, will only be possible if Shetty gets permission – and a visa, to travel through Pakistan. He however, has a Plan B in place, via Dubai. The journey could be further delayed if he would have to take a detour through Bandar Abbas and then Dubai and then aboard an overseas ‘dhow’ to India.
Shetty has managed to cross Germany, Austria, Slovenia and is currently riding towards Bulgaria. So far, Shetty’s team has been unable to get a Pakistani visa to allow him to travel overland into India.
“This trip is really an itch I've wanted to scratch for a very long time. While I like to travel, I'm not the type to go off for twelve months and find myself, I prefer my adventures at a faster pace. While I can't wait to get started, there are some sections of the journey that I'm a little apprehensive about. The crucial element is getting into Pakistan, but then when I do it's likely that I will need to travel the country under police escort. Of course if I don't get my visa approved, it's Dubai and a boat or two. It will be adventure whatever way fate rolls the dice," Sushant commented.
During his journey, Sushanth will be using the popular Couch Surfing website community for his accommodation, that effectively allows members to contact other members in cities they are visiting and stay in their house, flat or apartment.
The Suzuki Hayabusa will be kept in India after completion of the ride and will be displayed at the 2015 India Bike Week after which it will be shipped back to the United Kingdom.
