CEAT Ladakh Enduro Park: My First Off-Road Experience

When an opportunity to ride at the world’s highest enduro park arrived my way, I was excited but also slightly nervous. This was my first trip to Ladakh, and more importantly, I’m still a beginner when it comes to off-roading. My only real experience before this was at Royal Enfield’s Slide School. So, the thought of riding a purpose-built enduro track at around 3,500 metres above sea level was both intriguing and intimidating.

Located in Leh, the CEAT Ladakh Enduro Park has now been recognised by the India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records as Asia’s Highest-Altitude Motorcycle Training Arena. But before getting anywhere near the dirt, day one was dedicated to acclimatisation. It was also a chance to experience Ladakh beyond its motorcycles and mountains, with traditional local dance performances offering a wonderful insight into the region’s culture and heritage. By day two, though, it was time to get on the bikes.

Getting The Basics Right

We began the morning on the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 as a warm-up. The chief instructor went back to basics, polishing our riding posture, body positioning and turning techniques before we were let loose on the enduro track.

Our motorcycle for the main session was the Hero Xpulse 210, fitted with CEAT’s Grip XC knobby tyres.

The first lap was a sighting lap, and it didn't take long for me to realise that the biggest limiting factor on this track wasn't the motorcycle. It was me.

The Xpulse 210 felt extremely capable, while the Grip XC tyres provided an almost absurd amount of grip, even on loose and sandy sections. It gave me confidence to focus less on whether the bike would make it through an obstacle and more on whether I could ride it properly.

A Playground For Off-Roaders

There really isn't a better word to describe the Enduro Park than beautiful.

The track has three levels, with each offering a different level of difficulty. We had access to the first two, but that was more than enough to satisfy my off-road appetite.

There were big jumps, whoops, tall berms, challenging turns and plenty of elevation changes. And then there was the backdrop. Riding with the Shanti Stupa and snow-capped mountains in the distance is something that is difficult to put into words.

Learning At The Ceat Ladakh Enduro Park

I managed around 10 laps before physical fatigue started taking over. Mentally, however, I wasn't ready to stop.

With every lap, my confidence grew. I started carrying more speed, pushing the bike a little harder and, most importantly, trusting my own abilities more. By the end of the session, I had gone from cautiously navigating the track to actually wanting to see what I could do next.

Unfortunately, all good things eventually have to come to an end.

More Than Just A Motorcycle Track

A quick chat with CEAT CMO Lakshmi Narayanan B revealed that the enduro park is only the beginning of what the company has planned for the facility.

CEAT is looking at adding a 4x4 track for cars and ATVs, a flat track, curated local rides and even glamping. If these plans become a reality, the facility could evolve into a full-fledged adventure destination rather than just a motorcycle training arena. And after experiencing the enduro park first-hand, that's something I would genuinely look forward to coming back for.

My first trip to Ladakh gave me plenty of memories, but riding around the world's highest enduro park was easily one of the highlights. More importantly, it left me with a slightly sore body, a much bigger appetite for off-roading and one undeniable thought: I need more time on dirt.
