Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 Latest Updates

Bearing a price premium of around Rs 6000, the Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 was launched in January this year. Prices for the new Himalayan BS6 begin from Rs 1,86,811 (ex-showroom Delhi). In addition to the three old colours (white, black and Sleet), Royal Enfield has also introduced three new ones: grey, blue and red. The sleet and grey colours are priced at Rs 1,89,565 and the other two new colours cost Rs 1,91,401. Aside from the new colours, Royal Enfield has introduced switchable ABS and hazard lights.

Himalayan BS6 Specifications

Royal Enfield has worked a lot on improving the refinement of the 411cc single-cylinder engine. The current BS6 power unit is certainly a lot smoother than the first one we sampled in 2016. The engine produces 24.31PS and 32Nm, 0.13PS lower than its BS4 guise. No changes to the five-speed gearbox though. The Himalayan BS6 remains a capable off-roader, suspended by long-travel suspension units at both ends. It is the only affordable adventure tourer in India to get a 21-/17-inch spoke wheel setup that comes shod with dual-purpose CEAT tyres. Braking hardware comprises a front 300mm disc with a twin-piston caliper and on the rear wheel, you get a 240mm disc with a single-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS comes as standard with switchable ABS finally offered on the Himalayan.

Himalayan BS6 Design

We have always been impressed with the simple and functional design of the Royal Enfield Himalyan. The new colours make it look more delectable, heightening the appeal of the adventure motorcycle.

Himalayan BS6 Features

There aren’t many features to talk about the Himalayan BS6. The headlight is a simple bulb unit. The instrument cluster looks virtually the same as before, although there are a few more tell tale lights and an additional toggle switch on the console for the switchable ABS. Yes, part of the extra goodies offered with the BS6 transition is switchable ABS, boosting its adventure credentials.

Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 Competitors

In the affordable adventure touring genre, the Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 locks horns with the KTM 390 Adventure, the BMW G 310 GS and the Kawasaki Versys-X 300. All three rivals are significantly pricier than the Enfield motorcycle. The Hero XPulse 200 is an even more affordable adventure motorcycle but lacks the touring capabilities of the Himalayan. Hero MotoCorp is working on a mid-displacement adventure bike that will rival the Enfield.

Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 Price

The price of Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 starts at Rs. 1.87 lakh and goes upto Rs. 1.91 lakh. Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6 is offered in 6 variants - Snow White, Granite Black, Gravel Grey, Sleet Grey, Lake Blue and the top variant Himalayan BS6 Rock Red which comes at a price tag of Rs. 1.91 lakh.

Editor's View of Royal Enfield Himalayan BS6

  • Upside

Spot on ergonomics for touring or standing and riding,Brilliant off-roading credentials,Switchable ABS

  • Downside

High kerb weight, feels front-heavy,Braking performance could have been better

  • Our Verdict

The Royal Enfield Himalayan was the motorcycle that kick started the affordable adventure touring genre in India in 2016. Despite the arrival of new rivals, it continues to outshine them as an all-rounder. RE has ironed out the majority of the issues that plagued the first-gen motorcycle, but brakes still remain an Achilles heel.

Q. What about the vibration when ride around 90-110kmph - Himalayan BS6?
  • The RE Himalayan BS6 model has been recently launched, and we haven't tested it yet in real-life conditions. So, we would suggest you to wait till we get our hands on it. You can click on the following link to see the details of the nearest dealership and selecting your city accordingly - Bike Showrooms.
  • Yes it should be fine and comfortable when u go in 90 to 100.but when go more than 100 and 110 it becomes a little bit vibrating like if any girl rides on it she would definitely get o****m ....but still it is good for under 100 speed and super fine for offroad
Q. Does the tube tyre really works for Himalayan BS6 for off road conditions we might face puncher problems right.
  • Royal Enfield Himalayan is an Adventure tourer bike so there won't be any problem with a tubeless tyre. However, alloy and spoke wheel can make a difference in performance but not the tyres. Moreover, the advantage of tubeless tyres is that they are lightweight, sir comes out slowly, there is no unwanted friction. Talking about the disadvantages, tubeless tyres is that they are expensive to assemble and difficult to fit.
