Expert's Opinion on Guerrilla 450
Overview

- The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 stands out as the brand’s first modern roadster offering
- Features the same liquid-cooled 450cc engine as the Himalayan 450
- Has undergone a few changes to give it a unique identity of its own
Performance & Mileage

- The 450cc liquid-cooled Sherpa engine offers thrilling performance with a tested 0-100kmph acceleration time of 6.57 seconds
- Can easily hold highway speeds and more without feeling stressed
- Vibrations are kept to a minimum and are only noticeable at the higher rev ranges
- Doesn’t have enough bottom end grunt & can stall easily below 2k rpm, which makes riding in the city a bit tricky
- Engine heats up quickly in stop and go traffic which is a bit annoying
- The small 11-litre tank is inadequate for traveling longer distances
Handling

- The Guerrilla 450 has the longest wheel base in segment which makes the bike very stable at higher speeds
- Is relatively agile and nimble when riding in the city and can easily cut through traffic without much trouble
- Braking performance is quite good, with really a strong initial bite and good feel from the front disc
- Long wheelbase gives the bike a larger turning radius, making it difficult to execute u-turns
- The heavier weight also makes maneuvering the bike around the parking lot a bit of a hassle
- Doesn’t tip into corners as enthusiastically as other bikes in the segment
Ride Quality

- The suspension is set towards the stiffer side, which keeps the bike stable at higher speeds
- Can handle most bumps and potholes on the road without much trouble
- The ride quality on bad roads feels still and can toss if off the seat over larger bumps
Comfort & Storage

- Offers a relaxed and upright riding posture which makes riding for long durations possible
- The seat is also very well padded and can easily accommodate longer trips without the rider feeling uncomfortable
Features

- Features the same 5-inch TFT console as the Himalayan, with smartphone connectivity
- Offers full-fledged Google-maps based navigation, call/SMS alerts and music controls
- The rider’s phone has to be kept unlocked at all times for navigation to work, which defeats the purpose
Verdict

- The Guerrilla 450 stands out as a really good modern roadster, which has exciting performance and a lot of features on offer. It is not the best when it comes to handling, but still manage to offer the kind of performance that’ll keep you hooked. There are a few issues with the bike, such as the stiffer suspension and some quality inconsistencies, but overall they are smaller issues which aren’t real deal breakers.
Key Things to Know about Guerrilla 450
- Punchy motor makes it a lot of fun in the city or on the highway
- Feels really nimble, whether filtering through traffic or having fun on a winding hill road
- The low 780mm seat height and low-ish 184kg kerb weight makes it really easy to manage
- Engine still has some vibrations throughout the rev range
- Non-adjustable brake and clutch levers might be a bit of a reach for those with smaller hands
- Smaller 11-litre fuel tank means more fuel stops if you’re out touring
The Royal Enfield Guerrilla 450 looks great and is fun to ride in the city, on the highway and even on twisty roads. Combined with its low seat height and low-ish kerb weight that makes it easy to manage for a variety of riders, makes the Guerrilla an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a neo-retro roadster.
