Tata Motors has added the S-SG variants (Self-Shifting Gears, or AMT in Tata-speak) to the popular Nexon compact SUV. Available only on the top-of-the-line XZA+ trim, the new Nexon Hyprdrive S-SG has been launched at an introductory price of Rs 9.41 lakh for the petrol and Rs 10.3 lakh for the diesel variant (ex-showroom Delhi). For an average increase of just about Rs 40,000 over the manual variants, the new XZA+ variants seem quite value for money.
Apart from the new AMT variants, Tata has also debuted a new two-tone Etna Orange/Sonic Silver dual-tone paint option for the Nexon. The Tata Nexon S-SG carries forward features like the ‘multi-drive’ modes (which lets you choose engine modes between Eco, City and Sport) and a wearable key (a feature lifted off the Jaguar F-Pace and other JLR products), which are segment-firsts. Tata’s taken a leaf out of Maruti Suzuki’s books and introduced an online customiser and visualiser for the Nexon called the ‘Imaginator’.
The Tata Nexon S-SG AMT is paired to the same 1.2-litre turbocharged ‘Revotron’ petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged ‘Revotorq’ diesel engines, developing 110PS/170Nm and 110PS/260Nm respectively. The AMT, apart from the clutch-free experience it offers, also adds features like a crawl function, hill-start assist, anti-stall system and a kick-down mode.
Other features already available on the Nexon, like the 6.5-inch floating multimedia screen paired to an 8-speaker Harman-Kardon surround sound system, Android Auto smartphone connectivity, dual front airbags, height-adjustable front seatbelts, a 350-litre luggage compartment etc. have been carried over from the manual transmission variants.
