Tata Motors has introduced a new XZ variant of the Nexon sub-4 metre SUV. The Nexon XZ, which is the fifth variant in the lineup, slots in between the XT and the XZ+ and is priced at Rs 7.99 lakh for the petrol version and Rs 8.99 lakh for the diesel (ex-showroom Delhi). This makes the new variant roughly around Rs 82,000 more expensive than the Nexon XT.

The extra dough gets you features seen on the XZ+ variant such as the 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, rear parking camera with sensors and dynamic guidelines, day/night IRVM, four tweeters and fabric inserts on the door pads. You also get projector headlamps, height-adjustable driver’s seat and body-coloured ORVMs.
So what does it miss out on? With the XZ variant, you don’t get the option of a dual-tone roof and other minor goodies such as LED DRLs, front and rear fog lamps, push button start and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The Tata Nexon is powered by either a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol or a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel engine. The 3-cylinder petrol motor and the 4-Cylinder diesel engine have a similar power output of 110PS. However, the diesel trumps the petrol when it comes to the amount of twist available - 260Nm to the petrol’s 170Nm. Both engines are mated to a 6-speed manual and Tata is set to introduce an AMT transmission with both engine options quite soon.
