Bajaj Auto had unveiled the V15, a new premium commuter motorcycle, ahead of the recently held 2016 Auto Expo, and had scheduled its launch by the end of March. Now Bajaj authorised dealers have started accepting bookings for the motorcycle with a minimum amount of Rs 1,000. The Bajaj V15 will be priced slightly above the Rs 60,000 mark when launched.

The Bajaj V15 adopts the letter ‘V’ from the name of the warship INS Vikrant, as the scrap metal obtained from the decommissioned aircraft carrier was purchased by the bike manufacturer and used in forming the fuel tank of the bike. Bajaj has also released a video prior to the bike’s unveiling displaying the patriotism involved in building the V15.

The V15 is a premium commuter bike which has the form of a café-racer and hints of a cruiser bike. The use of 18-inch wheels at the front and 16-inch at the rear, set at a wheelbase that is 10mm more than that of the Discover gives the bike a solid stance. The V15 has muscular accents on the fuel tank and body panels. The bike sports telescopic forks at the front with a disc brake, while the rear gets dual chrome shock absorbers with a drum brake. The bike can be used a single seater as the pillion seat can be covered with a removable cowl. The instrumental cluster is semi-digital featuring colour changing LED fuel gauge and an analogue speedometer with other information lights.

The new offering from Bajaj is powered by the air-cooled 150cc DTS-i four-stroke single cylinder engine which produces 12PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 13Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm. Power is transmitted to the rear via a 5-speed gearbox.

The Bajaj V15 will be available in two colour options of Ebony Black and Pearl White.
