KTM 890 Duke

The KTM 890 Duke GP has been launched globally at GBP 10,249 (around Rs 10.40 lakh). This makes the new variant about Rs 20,300 dearer than the standard model. Here’s what it gets for the premium.

The 2022 KTM 890 Duke R was launched abroad earlier in February. For 2022, KTM has only given the naked cosmetic updates in the form of a new colour: ‘Atlantic Blue’. Other than this, the rest of the bike remains unchanged. Read more about the updated bike in our report here.

The 890 Duke is the base-spec version of the 890 Duke R that was unveiled at the 2019 EICMA. Powering the bike is the KTM 790 Duke’s liquid-cooled, parallel twin engine, but its capacity has been increased from 799cc to 889cc. This has resulted in an increase in power output from 105PS to 115PS on the base Duke, and 121PS on the R. Even the peak torque is up from 87Nm to 92Nm, with the R’s motor producing 7Nm more.

Just like the KTM 790 Duke, the 890 Duke too gets non-adjustable suspension and simple front radial calipers. These bits are said to have been improved from the 790 to suit the extra performance at hand. The 890 Duke R, though, gets fully adjustable WP Apex suspension on both ends. Even in the braking department, it receives superior Brembo Stylema radial calipers up front, holding a set of bigger 320mm discs. The rear retains the 240mm disc brake setup. For superior grip, the motorcycle packs Michelin Power Sport II tyres. 

The seat height has been lowered from 825mm to 820mm. No changes to the dry weight of the middleweight Duke; the 890 tipping the scales at 169kg, which is the same as the 790. The KTM 890 Duke is likely to be launched in India in mid-2022 and could command a premium of about Rs 1.5 lakh over the 790 Duke. For reference, the KTM 790 Duke BS4 was priced at Rs 8.5 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of competition, the 890 Duke will go up against the Triumph Street Triple R, Kawasaki Z900 and Ducati Monster.
