Kinetic e-Luna Bike Latest Updates
Leaked images of the kInetic e-Luna have surfaced online and here is your first look at the EV.
Kinetic Green is all set to bring back the iconic Luna in an electric avatar. The e-moped retains its simple and utilitarian design language. It gets a wide floorboard to accommodate the battery pack, and is pretty sizeable as compared to the small spine found on the TVS XL100.
According to our sources, the e-Luna will get a top speed of 50kmph, and will be a high speed EV that will be eligible with FAME 2 subsidies. It also gets (likely 16 inch) wire-spoked rims and drum brakes at both ends.
Expect the e-Luna to launch in July 2023, with an expected sticker price between Rs 70,000 and Rs 80,000, ex-showroom.
The Kinetic Luna, as the company claims, was “India’s first, completely domestic moped”. The iconic 50cc two-stroke moped was developed in a joint venture with Japanese brand Honda Motor Company. It played a big role in mobilising the masses, especially the womenfolk. The Luna’s compact dimensions helped in easy manoeuvrability, making it convenient to potter around town, and was quite popular in the western part of the country. Those who are feeling nostalgic can check out this web visual story too. In its heydays, the Luna dominated the moped segment with a 95 percent market share, and sold around 2,000 units per day! That’s basically 60,000 units a month, an impressive figure for the time. It was launched in the early 1970s, and was discontinued in early 2000s owing to stringent emission norms.
As mentioned before, the OG Luna was powered by a 50cc single-cylinder air-cooled two-stroke engine, just about powerful enough to do its daily duties. Moreover, riders also had the convenience of pedals if the 4-odd litre fuel tank ran dry, just like the TVS XL100.
Once the electric Luna is launched in the B2B segment, it will go up against Okinawa Dual 100.
