It retains the same performance as before despite running a cleaner engine

  • Kawasaki W800 BS6 gets a massive price cut.
  • Features a dome-shaped LED headlamp, slipper clutch, and an analogue console with a digital insert.
  • Weighs the same as the BS4 model.
  • The premium neo-retro segment is about to get a lot more competitive with the launch of the Kawasaki W800 BS6 model. What’s changed? Well, despite its BS6 update, the W800 costs Rs 6,99,000 (ex-showroom), which is a whole Rs 1 lakh less than the BS4 model. It also manages to run a cleaner engine without losing out on its performance.

The bike is powered by a 773cc air-cooled vertical-twin engine (two vertical pistons connected by a 360-degree crankshaft) which makes 52PS of power at 6500rpm and 62.9Nm of peak torque at 4800rpm. The motor features a 6-speed transmission with a slip-and-assist clutch which negates wheel hops during hard downshifts. Aside from this, the bike remains unchanged.

Kawasaki has played its cards right by positioning the BS6 W800 smack in between the BS6 Triumph Bonneville Street Twin (Rs 7.45 lakh) and the value-for-money Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 priced at Rs 2.85 lakh. Both of these run parallel-twins engines and cater to the retro segment. Besides, Triumph is yet to announce a price hike for its BS6 range, which is currently being sold at the same price as the outgoing BS4 models. That means you'll have to shell out a lot more post July 2020 if you intend to get your hands on Triumph’s BS6 models.
