Ducati has launched the 2026 Monster in India from Rs 13,99,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi), up Rs 15,000 over the outgoing bike. Five generations in, the Monster hasn't strayed far from what made it work in the first place — light, sporty, easy to live with — a formula that goes all the way back to 1992. What's new this time is a smoother engine and a much bigger electronics package.

Unmistakably Monster

One look and you know what you're looking at. The 2026 bike is compact and muscular, with reworked side panels carrying bolder Monster badging, a fuel tank with a fresh new shape, and a twin exhaust setup that wasn't there before. India gets two variants — the standard Monster and the Monster Plus (priced from Rs 14,34,000 ex-showroom), which adds a flyscreen and passenger seat cowl for riders who mostly ride solo and want a cleaner look. Colour options are limited to Ducati Red, Iceberg White and Sport Livery.

A New Heart

At the centre of it all is a new 890cc V2 with intake variable timing (IVT), lifted from the Panigale V2 and Multistrada V2. Output is 111 PS at 9,000rpm and 91.1 Nm at 7,250rpm — torque actually drops by 2 Nm over the old bike, though Ducati says that shouldn't matter much since over 80 percent of it is available anywhere between 4,000rpm and 10,000rpm. There's a real-world benefit too: valve clearance checks are now due every 45,000km instead of the shorter interval before. The engine still doubles as a stressed member in an aluminium monocoque frame, and there's a double-sided swingarm borrowed from the Panigale V4. Weight is down to 175 kg (kerb, without fuel) — 4 kg less than the outgoing Monster.

Suspension comes from Showa at both ends. Braking is handled by Brembo M4.32 radial callipers up front, biting into dual 320mm discs, with a 245mm disc doing duty at the rear. The seat's narrower now and sits at 815 mm, 5 mm lower than before, and the bars have moved to give a more upright, natural riding position. Tyres are still Pirelli's Diablo Rosso IV.

Feature-Rich!

There's a lot packed in here. A six-axis IMU handles cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and engine braking control, all run through a new 5-inch TFT display that switches between day and night modes. Four riding modes are on offer — Sport, Road, Urban, and Wet — and both the bidirectional quickshifter and cruise control come as standard. Keyless ignition is new to the Monster as well.

ZigSays

Ducati hasn't reinvented the Monster with this update — it's more of a fine-tune. The engine is smoother, the service intervals longer, and the features list longer too, all of which should make it an easier bike to live with day to day. It'll be up against the Triumph Street Triple 765 and Kawasaki Z900 in this segment.
