This Vietnamese EV looks straight out of the future!

VinFast Rasad Electric Maxi Scooter Design Patent Filed In India

VinFast has filed a design patent in India for its Rasad electric maxi-scooter, the third such filing from the company in a short span, after the Viper scooter, which has also been confirmed for India. Three filings in quick succession is hard to read as anything but deliberate. This isn't a company dipping a toe in; it looks like they're lining up an entire range before they've even confirmed a launch date.

Patent filing confirmed

The patent covers the Rasad's design, the same look VinFast showed off globally back in early 2026 when it overhauled its scooter lineup. It's a big, angular scooter built on an underbone frame, with chunky tyres, a tall windscreen, and a wide stepped seat that should fit two people comfortably. Under the styling, the filing shows a telescopic fork, twin shocks, and disc brakes at both ends, nothing exotic, but solid, sensible hardware for a scooter this size.

Unconfirmed specs and timing

Nothing official on numbers yet, but a Vietnamese announcement suggests a centrally mounted motor making around 7.1 kW, with a claimed top speed of 100 kmph. That's quick for a scooter and enough to put it in proper performance territory rather than just a commuter with sportier looks. VinFast is apparently targeting a global launch around Q4 2026, though India hasn't been mentioned with any specific timeline. Going by how VinFast has rolled out other models, an India launch would come sometime after that. Power, range, and pricing for India are all still unknowns at this point.

What the Rasad brings to Indian maxi-scooters

Assuming the claimed numbers stick, the Rasad would be aimed at the same crowd as the Yamaha Aerox. It will target riders who want a scooter that looks and feels a bit sportier than the usual family runabout. What's more telling, though, is the pattern: a maxi-scooter, a regular scooter, and a motorcycle, all patented around the same time. That's not how a company behaves when it's testing one product to see if it sticks. It looks like VinFast wants to show up in India with a full lineup already in place. A patent obviously doesn't guarantee any of these actually go on sale, but taken together, it's the clearest hint yet of how serious VinFast is about India.
