BMW Motorrad has entered the Scrambler market, unveiling a new variant of the retro styled 1170cc boxer twin R NineT, calling it the R NineT Scrambler at the EICMA show in Milan.
The main changes include raised handlebars, lowered footpegs, a new 2-1 exhaust, also raised, a circular headlight and new upholstery on the seat. An analog speedometer, skid plate and beefier tyres complete the retro ‘Scrambler’ look.
The suspension gets more travel front and rear, to take care of occasional soft-road duties, although the R NineT Scrambler, like most Scramblers these days, isn’t meant for actual off-road use. The front fork gets rubber gaiters, and gets light alloy wheels (19 inch front, 17 inch rear) with optional cross-spoke wheels.
The powerplant is the same as the R NineT’s – a horizontally opposed 1170cc twin, which makes 110PS power and peak torque of 116Nm. Braking is also the same – using hydraulically-activated 320mm twin discs at the front and a 265mm single disc at the rear – with standard ABS. Prices of the R NineT Scrambler haven’t been announced yet.
