The Royal Enfield Himalayan has been a name that is synonymous with the bike’s go-anywhere nature. Sure, the petrol-powered bike is extremely capable, but the upcoming Himalayan Electric, which has been spied testing in Ladakh, is expected to take things to the next level.

Almost Production Ready

First called the Him-E concept, the wraps of the bike were taken off at the 2023 EICMA show in Milan, Italy, and the latest, called Himalayan Electric Version 2.0 was showcased at the 2024 Motoverse in Goa, India. The latest spy shots show that the bike is similar to the one showcased at the 2024 Motoverse show. It shares the same fit and finish levels, high-spec components such as Ohlins suspension at both ends, rally-tower, aluminium components and a long single-piece seat which extends up to the “tank” of the motorcycle. The spoked wheels, expected to be tubeless units, and the dual-purpose Bridgestone Battalax Adventurecross tyres are the same as well.

Will Your Next Adventure Bike Be Electric?

The Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric, once launched, will be more of a technological showcase and will be a premium offering marketed to a niche audience who are serious about trying the latest in tech. In this case - the prospect of an adventure bike that can conquer the hills, and stay as green as the mountains away from the city are.

Electric motorcycles in general are still niche all things considered, and their range is heavily limited by the battery capacity and the level of battery technology. With the Himalayan electric test bed, Royal Enfield will have the liberty to try out different configurations and not be bothered about battery size constraints at least as much as it had to with the relatively miniscule Flying Flea platform. Still, it may not be as much of a long-range terrain taming missile as regular ADVs, but will definitely give enthusiasts a taste of the same direction in which the bike is heading. The premium underpinnings prove that it will be, we dare say, every bit as capable as a typical petrol-powered ADV, at least off the road.

It’ll also be interesting to see how Royal Enfield manages to optimise the centre of gravity on a motorcycle platform that inherently has such a high ground clearance. We, for one, cannot wait to find out by actually riding it. Speaking of which, we expect the motorcycle to be showcased in its production-spec avatar at the 2025 EICMA show, and an expected launch sometime by 2026. But before this, Royal Enfield will launch another electric motorcycle, called the Flying Flea C6. It’s planned to be launched by around March 2026.

As mentioned earlier, since it’ll be more of a tech-showcase, it will also command a hefty price tag, restricting it to the technologically inclined with heavy pockets. We wouldn’t be surprised if it costs around Rs 7 or 8 lakh (ex-showroom), putting it in the leagues of premium middleweight adventure bikes. So yes, it will most likely be the most expensive bike from the Chennai-based bikemaker if our guesstimate is true.
