The development of a Royal Enfield electric bike has been in the news for quite some time and now we finally know more about it! Royal Enfield has finally given us a glimpse into its electric portfolio by showcasing the ‘Electric Himalayan Test Bed’ at EICMA 2023.

In terms of design, the Royal Enfield Himalayan Electric is quite a departure from the current Royal Enfield Himalayan and the Himalayan 450. Yes it’s tall and looks rugged but the lack of a big beak up front and the front panels (where you’d keep the jerry cans) make it look similar to the Husqvarna Norden 901. Even the windshield seems larger than both the other Himalayans. The charging port, meanwhile, is where the fuel tank cap would be.

There’s a golden USD fork, a first for a Royal Enfield bike, along with an Ohlins gas-charged monoshock, both likely to be adjustable. Braking is handled by discs at both ends and the SM Pro Platinum spoke wheels seem to be a 21-/17-inch combination. That said, the rear tyre looks quite chunky, maybe to handle all the torque that EVs make all the time. But all that torque is also exactly what should make the Royal Enfield Himalayan electric very good off-road.

These things said, the Royal Enfield Himalayan electric is still a concept as of now. It’s just a platform for Royal Enfield to push the envelope of their EV prowess, so an actual launch will still be several years away. Before this materialises, we could very well witness the Royal Enfield Classic electric bike to hit the market first. Business-wise, that would be the ideal motorcycle to kick things off in the EV space. At the unveil event, Royal Enfield also mentioned that it will be unveiling a "lot of new concepts in the next few months" so the unveiling of the Classic electric could actually be closer than we think!
