The Suzuki SV650 could be making a comeback in Europe. The iconic middleweight roadster was discontinued in the European market earlier this year as it could not meet the stricter Euro 5 plus emission norms. Now, Suzuki appears to be preparing a new version of the SV650, with the motorcycle recently receiving certification from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The new SV650 is expected to return as a 2027 model, and this time around, Suzuki could give its much-loved roadster a few important updates.

What’s Going To Be New?

The biggest change is expected to be under the skin. The SV650 could borrow its updated 645cc V-twin engine from the SV-7GX sport tourer, which is already sold in Europe and meets Euro 5 Plus emission regulations. In the SV-7GX, this engine produces 73 PS and 64 Nm. We expect the SV650 to deliver similar performance figures, although Suzuki could make a few tweaks to the engine and exhaust system to meet the latest emission requirements.

Could Get More Features

Apart from the engine updates, Suzuki could also use this opportunity to bring the SV650 up to date with modern technology. Features such as ride-by-wire, traction control and multiple riding modes could make their way onto the roadster. There could also be some subtle changes to the styling. The SV650’s iconic neo-retro design has remained largely unchanged for years, so a few tweaks to the bodywork, lighting and other details would give it some much-needed freshness. However, we expect Suzuki to retain the motorcycle’s familiar silhouette.

When Will It Be Revealed?

Suzuki is expected to unveil the new SV650 globally at the EICMA show in Milan later this year. EICMA is one of the biggest motorcycle events in the world and is where several manufacturers showcase their upcoming models. If the SV650 does make its return, it could bring a much-needed dose of freshness to one of Suzuki’s most recognisable middleweight motorcycles.

In Europe, the SV650 has built a strong reputation for its simple, fun-to-ride character and V-twin engine. If Suzuki manages to retain those qualities while adding modern features and Euro 5 Plus compliance, the new version could be an interesting comeback. For now, though, we’ll have to wait for EICMA to see exactly what Suzuki has planned.
