Shares its engine and underpinnings with the Ninja 300

Kawasaki has launched the Z300 in India, bringing a new entry-level naked roadster to its Z lineup. Sharing its underpinnings with the Ninja 300, the Z300 gets the tried-and-tested 296 cc parallel-twin engine with streetfighter styling inspired by the larger Z900. It also gets an updated feature set, including a digital console. The Kawasaki Z300 is priced at Rs 3,24,000 (ex-showroom). Here’s all you need to know:
A Proper ‘Z’

The Kawasaki Z300 follows the brand’s same Sugomi design philosophy, with sharp bodywork, an aggressive stance and angular styling inspired by the larger Z900. However, its compact proportions give it a more approachable appearance.
Unlike the fully faired Ninja 300, the Z300 features an exposed engine, a sculpted fuel tank and a single-piece handlebar. This setup will offer a more upright riding position, making it better suited to daily commutes and urban riding.
The Z300 is available in two colour options: Green and Black. It gets an LED headlight and taillight setup but the indicators are regular halogen units (why Kawasaki!?).
Same Engine, Similar Underpinnings

Powering the Kawasaki Z300 is the same 296 cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine as the Ninja 300 and the Versys-X 300. It produces 40 PS and 26.3 Nm, with power sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed gearbox with a slipper clutch. As we have experienced on the Ninja and the Versys, the engine makes all its power higher in the rev range. While it is a very linear and tractable engine, it isn’t the smoothest parallel-twin engine out there.
The Z300 shares its chassis with the Ninja 300. Even the 17-inch alloys, the 290 mm front disc brake, the 220 mm rear disc brake and the suspension setup (a telescopic fork and a monoshock) are the same.
The bike has a seat height of 785 mm, ground clearance of 140 mm and a kerb weight of 175 kg (4 kg lighter than its faired sibling). Its fuel tank capacity stands at 17 litres.
That said, rider aids are still the same. It continues with dual-channel ABS as standard.
ZigSays
The Kawasaki Z300 fills the void left by the now-discontinued Yamaha MT-03. With more features and the iconic Z styling, it makes for an attractive proposition for buyers looking for a parallel-twin naked bike without stretching their budget to the Aprilia Tuono 457.
That said, if outright performance and a feature-loaded package are your priorities, rivals such as the KTM 390 Duke and the TVS Apache RTR 310 are worth considering. The Z300’s appeal, however, lies in its twin-cylinder engine and distinctive Kawasaki naked-bike styling.
