Your Dream Euro Bike Could Soon Be Within Closer Reach

The India-EU FTA has cracked open the door for the possibility of cheaper European performance machines, but for bikers, the big question still burns: the deal says “motor vehicles,” but does it include bikes? We analyze what could potentially happen:

Ducati

If two-wheelers do get covered, the real fireworks will be at the top end first. Think Ducati Panigale V4, Ducati Multistrada V4, Ducati Streetfighter V4, and Ducati Diavel V4 – the seriously pricey, halo stuff that rolls straight out of Italy. So if EU-built bikes get tariff relief, most top-of-the-line variants of multiple Ducati bikes sold here should qualify.

BMW

BMW Motorrad would be another big winner. Bikes like the BMW R 12, BMW F 900 GS, BMW S 1000 XR, BMW S 1000 RR, BMW S 1000 R, BMW R 1250 RT, BMW R 1300 GS, BMW K1600 GTL, BMW R 18 Transcontinental – hugely desirable but brutally taxed – could see meaningful price corrections over time if German-built imports fall under the reduced-duty umbrella.

Piaggio

Aprilia sits in a similar sweet spot: the Aprilia RS 660, Aprilia Tuono 660, and Aprilia Tuareg 660 could become far more approachable entry points into serious European performance, while the Aprilia RSV4 and Tuono V4 could benefit at the sharp end. And if parent company Piaggio decides to lean in harder, even Moto Guzzi’s larger models could become more viable in India than they’ve ever been.

Hero MotoCorp Comments

Mr. Harshavardhan Chitale, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Hero commented on this: “The conclusion of the trade agreement between India and EU trade is a landmark moment. It heralds more than a commercial milestone - it’s a strategic partnership shaping resilient economies. Hero MotoCorp welcomes this momentous step by the Government of India under the leadership of Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This agreement will unlock opportunities for the two-wheeler industry to expand their footprint and support ‘Make in India’ products to the European markets. This trade pact will strengthen regulatory cooperation, encourage R&D, innovation and deeper integration into global value chains.

Hero’s statement clearly leans into the export side of things. If the agreement comes into effect, we might also see Hero getting more serious about 250cc segments and above as they will have a big role to play in not only the Indian market but also in Europe.

Will It Actually Happen?

The key word, though, is time. Even for cars, these tariff cuts are phased and tied to quotas — not an overnight price slash. If motorcycles are included, we’re likely looking at a gradual shift over a few years, not instant showroom discounts. But things aren’t as straightforward. Other than the agreement being enforced, the final reduction in prices also hinges legally on multiple factors including GST, currency-conversion rate, potential changes in GST structure, among others.

If everything goes as fine and dandy as we envision (with eyes full of hope), the steady reduction in import duties could reshape the “big bike” ladder, making European machines feel less like luxury splurges and more like achievable dreams.

Right now, we’re in the waiting game. The framework is in place, the potential is massive, and the bikes that could benefit are some of the most exciting machines on the planet. But until the final tariff schedules spell out motorcycles in black and white, this remains the most thrilling “maybe” the Indian biking scene has had in years.
