BMW F 450 GS

Price: The BMW F 450 GS is available in four variants: Base, Exclusive, Sport, and GS Trophy. Following a price hike in September 2026, the Base variant is now priced at Rs 4,95,000, the Exclusive variant costs Rs 5,15,000, the Sport variant costs Rs 5.90,000, while the top-end GS Trophy is priced at Rs 5,60,000. All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi.

Design: When you look at the F 450 GS, it is pretty evident that BMW has emulated the R 1300 GS’ brutalist form in a smaller, compact package. It gets distinctive X-shaped DRLs, a sleek subframe, and a short upswept exhaust. The overall fit and finish reflect BMW Motorrad’s other international models - that’s important because BMW Motorrad wants this motorcycle to be affordable, without looking ‘cheap’ as such. The baby GS is available in just three colour schemes: Cosmic Black (common for both Base and Exclusive variants), the Sport variant gets Racing Red, and the GS Trophy gets an exclusive Racing Blue colour.

Features: The BMW F 450 GS gets a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity, call alerts and navigation via BMW's app. It also features switchable ABS and traction control, three riding modes, adjustable levers, heated grips and a preload- and rebound-adjustable rear monoshock. The Sport variant adds front suspension with adjustable rebound and compression damping, while the other goodies like a customisable Enduro Pro riding mode, a bi-directional quickshifter, knuckle guards, wider off-road footpegs and a plastic engine bash plate are the same as the Exclusive variant. The Sport variant also gets a sporty, smaller windscreen. However, the bike misses out on cruise control and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Engine: The F 450 GS is powered by a 420cc, liquid-cooled, parallel-twin engine producing 47.5PS and 43Nm. It is paired with a 6-speed gearbox, slipper clutch, and a bidirectional quickshifter. Do note that the quickshifter is available in Exclusive and GS Trophy variants only. The top-spec GS Trophy variant also gets an Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) for improved usability in traffic and off-road scenarios.

Suspension, Brakes & Other Details: The BMW F 450 GS offers a comfortable and confidence-inspiring riding position. Despite weighing 178kg, it is easy to move around, while the 845mm seat height is manageable thanks to its slim mid-section. Riders above 5’6” should find it fairly easy to get comfortable on the bike. The wide handlebar and natural reach further add to the riding comfort. The seat cushioning is good, making long-distance rides manageable, and its 350km tank range should allow decent touring stints with minimal breaks. However, the pillion experience is not as impressive. The rear seat is narrow and lacks sufficient comfort for longer journeys, while the grab rails could have been more ergonomic. Nevertheless, it should be adequate for shorter city commutes with a pillion. BMW has opted for a sportier suspension setup rather than the plush ride quality traditionally associated with its GS motorcycles. The adjustable suspension on the GS Trophy variant (and also on Sport) feels slightly firm for Indian road conditions. It does not absorb sharp bumps and potholes particularly well, transmitting some road imperfections to the rider. While not uncomfortable or harsh, the setup could have been more forgiving, especially on broken roads. Handling, however, is a major strength. The F 450 GS feels agile and responsive, making quick direction changes and navigating traffic effortless. Its wide handlebar offers excellent leverage, while the motorcycle remains stable through corners and at higher speeds. It inspires confidence on winding mountain roads, allowing riders to enjoy spirited riding despite its tall ADV stance.

Rivals: It rivals the KTM 390 Adventure R, Honda NX500, Benelli TRK 502 and the Norton Atlas.

The Exclusive variant adds a windshield, hand guards, offroad footpegs, Enduro Pro mode along with a quickshifter. The GS Trophy as well as the Sport variant get an adjustable fork, whereas the GS additionally gets an electronically actuated clutch, along with an exclusive colour scheme over and above all the bits the Exclusive version has.
