Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 Showcased In Brazil

The muck-covered prototype shows the true-intent of the ADV, and a lot of details about it

The upcoming Royal Enfield Himalayan 750 prototype was showcased in Brazil. The ADV on display was covered in muck for aesthetics, but there are a lot of new details that can be seen.

So without further ado, let's start at how it looks. While the overall styling looks quite similar to the Himalayan 450, there are some key differences, and some traces of the Himalayan 411 or the upcoming 440. For starters, at the front is a round headlight, but it has a cowl surrounding it, all the way up to the tank. Kinda makes it look like a certain Swedish ADV.

Talking about fuel tank, it looks more like the one on the Himalayan 440, or the 411, but much larger, in fact looks larger than the one on the 450. Moving further back, the split seat setup is similar to the 450. While the rider’s seat has a similar, scooped design, both the seats look quite well padded. Now how that translates to real-world comfort remains to be seen. Serrated rider footpegs can also be seen, which should help hold the bike better while riding on rough sections.

However the exhaust is much higher than the one on the 450, and could mean the 750 has better water wading capabilities. Coming to the rear, it’s as the 450 – tail-light integrated into the turn indicators.

Now let's take a look at the equipment. The Himalayan 750 will have a new chassis, and a box-type swingarm. At the front is a USD fork with preload and compression adjustability, while the monoshock has a remote preload adjuster. The ADV has tubeless spoked wheels – 19-inch front, 17-inch rear – and the model on display has dual-purpose tyres – 110-section front, 150-section rear. There are dual disc brakes on the front wheels. This should be more about stopping the heft of the Himalayan, rather than from an outright speed perspective. The rear is a single disc, but it too looks quite large – Bybre calipers on both ends.

On to the heart of the matter, quite literally. The Himalayan 750 will have an air-oil-cooled 750 cc twin-cylinder engine with a 270-degree firing order. The engine is expected to make around 55 PS and 65 Nm, and will be mated to a six-speed gearbox. The 750 will have a 2-into-1 exhaust.

Coming to the features, expect the Himalayan 750 to have plenty. Starting with cruise-control, which will be controlled via the right-hand-side switch gear. Above the cruise control switch is the ‘M’ button, which will change the riding modes. It will have ride-by-wire, dual-channel ABS, and traction control. A circular TFT display, like the one on the 450 can also be seen. Both the switchgears have the rotary controls like the smaller Himalayan.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan will be available in multiple variants – road biased and off-road biased. The road-biased variant was recently spotted, and has similar equipment sans the spoked wheels. This two-pronged approach will allow Royal Enfield cater to the ADV segment completely. The bike is expected to be launched in India early next year, at about Rs 4.5 lakh (ex-showroom). Its rivals will be the Honda NX500, BMW F 450 GS, and the upcoming Norton Atlas.
