Suzuki recently launched the naked Gixxer in China. Before you dismiss this piece as irrelevant news, allow us to tell you that a closer look reveals that the engine is shared with the 2019 India-spec Gixxer SF. The motor comes with fuel injection and you can also see the FI badging on the flyscreen. Another fact which reinforces this possibility is that the engine produces the same output as the 2019 Gixxer SF: 14.1PS at 8000rpm and 14Nm at 6000rpm. Just like the current India-spec 2019 Gixxer SF, the Chinese Gixxer also doesn’t sport a kick lever. We believe Suzuki will use the same engine in the upcoming 2019 Gixxer in India.

The motorcycle is exported from India and in order to keep the cost competitive, the tyres and brakes appear to be localised. The India-spec bike gets gold-finished Bybre caliper up front whereas the Chinese motorcycle gets a black unmarked unit. Unlike the Indian motorcycle, the one sold in China lacks ABS. Also, the alloy wheels are wrapped with CST Magsport rubber instead of MRF Revz tyres. In the Chinese market, the newly launched Gixxer is reportedly priced at 12,480 Yuan, which is approximately Rs 1.25 lakh. On the other hand, the Gixxer currently sold in India retails at Rs 88,941 (ex-showroom, Delhi). As for the India-spec 2019 Gixxer, we believe it could be priced around Rs 10,000 more than the current-gen Gixxer considering it gets a comprehensive update like new bodywork, new console and LED headlamp.

Suzuki seems to have tinkered with the chassis too, as the Chinese motorcycle measures 2055mm × 800mm × 1050mm (LxWxH), with a 1335mm long wheelbase. This makes it 5mm longer, 15mm wider and 20mm taller than the India-spec bike, and the wheelbase is 5mm longer as well. Interestingly, the kerb weight has remained unchanged at 136kg.

Another notable change is that the instrument cluster is reverse backlit in the Chinese-spec bike instead of red backlighting. The layout is also slightly different compared to the one sold in India, and the Chinese-spec bike also gets service interval and oil change indicator. That being said, it still uses the same console housing as the outgoing Indian Gixxer.
