Ather has finally launched the Konarc in India, marking the company’s entry into the more affordable end of the electric scooter market. The new scooter is based on Ather’s EL platform, which has been developed to underpin multiple electric two-wheelers using a common architecture.

The Ather Konarc is available in six variants and three battery pack options, with prices starting from Rs 99,999 (ex-showroom). Let’s look at all the details of Ather’s new family-oriented scooter in detail:

Ather offers the Konarc in six variants spread across the two lineups: S and Z. While we have the claimed range, prices and delivery timelines of a few variants, the entire range details are yet to be unveiled.

The three battery configurations currently detailed by Ather are the 2.1kWh, 2.7kWh and 3.5kWh units. These are paired with claimed IDC ranges of 100km, 125km and 161km respectively.

Ather Konarc Design

The Ather Konarc gets a conventional family-scooter design, with a boxy profile and a focus on practicality. Its overall silhouette is reminiscent of the Ather Rizta, although the Konarc gets its own styling details.

The LED headlight is mounted on the handlebar cowl, while the apron gets a massive LED DRL. The side panels feature sharp creases, giving the scooter a cleaner and more defined appearance.

The Konarc gets a large single-piece seat along with a substantial pillion adjustable backrest. The floorboard is also fairly spacious, giving riders more room to carry bags and other everyday items.

The scooter gets six colour options overall. The S 100 km is available in two colour combinations: Quartz White with Blue and Majestic Grey with Black, while the S 125 and S 161 get four colour combinations each, adding Celestial Gold with Blue and Lumen Copper with Black.

Interestingly, the Konarc uses a metal body and has a centre stand, making it the first Ather scooter to have these bits.

Ather Konarc Battery And Motor Specs

The Konarc is based on Ather's EL platform, which uses a common architecture across different electric scooter models. The main frame, wiring and powertrain are shared across the platform, while the battery, suspension, wheels and other components vary depending on the application.

The Konarc is available in multiple battery pack options and four claimed range figures: 100 km, 125 km, 161 km and 200 km.

The specifications for the S 200km and the Z range are yet to be announced.

As for the charging, the Konarc can be charged from 0-80 percent in 4 hours with a 450W on-board charger on the S 100. The S 125 takes 4 hours 30 minutes, while the S 161 takes 5 hours 40 minutes.

Ather has also rolled out a combined charging feature where one can add another charger of the same or larger capacity to increase the overall charging capacity of the scooter. For example, if you have a 450W charger, you can add another 450W unit to have a combined charging capacity of 900W.

With the additional charger, the S 100 takes 2 hours for a 0-80 percent charge, while the S 125 takes 2 hours 25 minutes and the S 161 takes 3 hours 10 minutes. The additional charger is an add-on for the S 100 and S 125, while it is included with the S 161.

The combined charging system adds up to 13km of range in 10 minutes on the S 100 and 15km in 10 minutes on both the S 125 and S 161.

Ather Konarc Underpinnings

The Konarc uses a tubular steel frame that forms the foundation of Ather's EL platform. The scooter gets a Showa telescopic fork and a monoshock, with 90mm of front suspension travel and 100mm at the rear. It rides on 14-inch front and 12-inch rear alloy wheels, wrapped in 90/90-14 front and 100/90-12 rear tyres.

Braking duties on the S 100 are handled by drum brakes at both ends, while the S 125 and S 161 get a 220mm front disc brake and a 130mm rear drum brake. Kerb weight is 126.5kg for the S 125 and 129kg for the S 161.

The Konarc also gets Ather's Advanced Electrical Braking System, or AEBS, which combines regenerative braking with conventional braking. The system uses the scooter's electric motor to provide additional deceleration while also recovering energy.

Ather Konarc Features

The S 100 gets a 4.2-inch LCD console, while the S 125 and S 161 get a larger 7-inch TFT unit. It also features Ather's latest software suite, including features introduced with AtherStack 7.0. All three variants come with three ride modes: Smart Eco, Eco and Power.

The feature list includes voice control, full-fledged navigation, pothole alerts, tow alerts and crash alerts. The navigation system works without requiring the smartphone to remain connected to the scooter.

Other features include riding modes, reverse mode, new AirWalk mode, keyless ignition, keyless boot release and hill-hold assist.

The S 125 and S 161 get Ather's Ride Assist features, including AirWalk, AutoHold, FallSafe and Bluetooth call and music alerts.

The S 125 and S 161 also get Ather Connect complimentary for three years, bringing features such as theft and tow alerts, ride stories, Find My Scooter, remote charging status, Bluetooth and SIM connectivity, the Ather app and OTA updates. AtherStack Pro is applicable across the three versions.

For practicality, there is an apron-mounted cubbyhole for smaller items, while the spacious floorboard adds further everyday practicality. The underseat boot has a 31-litre capacity across the range. The Konarc also gets a mobile holder with 18W USB-C charging port.

The scooter comes with a three-year/30,000km vehicle warranty and standard battery warranty, while the extended battery warranty goes up to 10 years/1,00,000km. Ather also offers an extended five-year/60,000km battery warranty.

Zigsays

The Konarc is an important product for Ather. The company has already established itself in the premium electric scooter space with the 450 range and expanded into the family scooter segment with the Rizta. With the Konarc, it now has a product aimed at a much wider set of buyers.

The Konarc itself focuses heavily on practicality. Its family-oriented design, large seat, spacious floorboard, generous storage, and multiple battery options make it a very different proposition from the more performance-focused Ather scooters.

However, its biggest challenge will be the competition. The TVS Orbiter, Bajaj Chetak C2501, Vida VX2 and Ola S1 X range are already fighting for buyers in this price-sensitive segment.
