The Gixxer and Gixxer SF have both been unveiled in BS6-compliant guise

The Auto Expo 2020 has kicked off and the company making news straight off the bat is Suzuki. The Japanese manufacturer has unveiled BS6-compliant versions of its popular Gixxer and Gixxer SF. The 155cc motor powering the two motorcycles was already fuel-injected and it now features an additional catalytic converter to help it meet the more stringent emission norms. As a result of this, prices are expected to increase by around Rs 5,000. Though pricing isn't out yet, interested buyers can make a booking at the Suzuki stall at the Expo.

Another consequence of the BS6 update is a reduction of engine output. While the BS4 Gixxer and SF produce 14.1PS and 14Nm, the cleaner motor on the BS6 bikes only manages 13.6PS and 13.8Nm. Even after this drop, though, the Gixxer is still more powerful than its biggest competitor, the Yamaha FZS-Fi, which only manages 12.4PS in its BS6 form.

Aside from this, there are no changes to the motorcycles. This means that both bikes continue to be held together by a single downtube frame suspended on a telescopic fork and monoshock. Disc brakes at both ends help bring them to a stop, with the help of a single-channel ABS system. The difference between the two models is that the Gixxer is a naked streetfighter while the SF features a full fairing. Both bikes were updated recently (in 2019), which explains why there aren't any major updates. However, some new accessories seem to be available for the Gixxer, as can be seen on the bike in the images. Knuckle guards and saddlebags are not part of standard fitment.
