Take a closer look at Yamaha’s all-new R-series motorcycle

Yamaha R2

Yamaha recently launched the YZF R2 in India. It is powered by an all-new 204cc liquid-cooled engine, it gets sporty styling and a host of premium features. Here are the top 10 highlights of Yamaha’s newest R-series motorcycle, explained through some detailed images:

Design

Yamaha R2

The Yamaha YZF-R2 gets a sporty and sleek design with sharp body panels. Some design cues appear to be inspired by its bigger sibling, like the YZF-R9, which is sold internationally. Overall, the R2 looks well-proportioned and gets a proper sportbike stance. It is available in 5 colour options: Metallic Blue, Dark Bluish Gray, Matte White Pearl, Racing Blue, and according to us the top-spec R2 M’s Metallic Gray shades look the best.

Engine

Yamaha R2

The Yamaha R2 is powered by an-all 204cc liquid-cooled engine producing 26.5 PS at 10,000 rpm and 19.1 Nm at 8,000 rpm, making it one of the most powerful bikes in its segment. It comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox, and also gets a slip and assist clutch.

Riding modes

Yamaha R2

The Yamaha R2 gets three riding modes: Street, Sport and Rain. It adjusts the bike’s throttle input according to the mode selected. Overall making the bike much more friendlier to ride in tricky conditions, or times when the bike’s maximum performance is needed.

Safety Tech

Yamaha R2

The R2 gets a switchable traction control as standard. This safety feature adds extra confidence and comes in handy while riding the motorcycle through unpredictable surfaces. Along with this, the bike also gets dual channel ABS.

New Chassis

Yamaha R2

The R2 uses a new steel tube diamond-type frame, moving away from the Deltabox setup, which is found in the R15. It is expected to offer good feedback to the rider, keeping the sporty, and predictable handling intact.

Suspension

Yamaha R2

The bike gets a KYB inverted fork as standard, and the rear is taken care of by a preload adjustable monoshock. Whereas the top spec ‘M’ variant gets a preload-adjustable KYB fork as well.

Kerb Weight

Yamaha R2

Despite having a larger engine, the R2 weighs 149 kg (kerb), which is just 8 kg more than the R15 which weighs 141 kg (kerb).

Misses Out On VVA Technology

Yamaha R2

Unlike the R15, the R2 misses out on VVA (Variable Valve Actuation) technology and uses a more efficient DOHC (Dual Overhead Camshaft) setup instead of the R15’s SOHC (Single Overhead Camshaft) setup.

MORE Adjustability

Yamaha R2

The R2 gets adjustable brake and clutch levers and rider footpegs, improving cornering clearance on track while allowing riders to customise the riding position to their liking.
