Continuing on its salvo in the year 2015, Mercedes-Benz has brought the ultra luxurious and ultra exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S600 to Indian shores at a price point of a staggering Rs 2.6 crore (ex-showroom, Punex). The Mercedes-Maybach S600 marks the return of the Maybach brand into India after Mercedes-Benz who owns the brand pulled it globally a few years ago. The new Mercedes-Maybach S600 will go up against the likes of the Bentley Flying Spur and the Rolls-Royce Ghost. Although the Maybach S600 is based on the S-Class, its wheelbase is 200mm longer than the luxury limousine it is based on. According to Mercedes-Benz, the Mercedes-Maybach S-600 also holds the bragging rights to being the quietest cabin ever offered on any production sedan anywhere in the world. The interior is of course the most important part of the S600 with individual seats in the rear that are upholstered according to the owner’s taste using the Designo program.
Under the hood the car will be sport a 6.0-litre V12 bi-turbo unit that makes power of 523PS of peak power and 830Nm of peak torque. This allows the Mercedes-Maybach S600 to touch the 100kmph marker from standstill in less than 5 seconds. The engine comes mated to the Mercedes 7G Tronic Plus automatic gearbox and is available only in rear wheel drive configuration.
The Mercedes-Maybach nomenclature which is being used on this long wheelbase S600 is the first time it is being used on a Mercedes model. If reports are to be believed, the next generation Mercedes-Benz E-Class and the Mercedes-Benz GLS (facelifted GL) will also have a Mercedes-Maybach variant in the near future along with an exclusive Mercedes-Maybach badged SUV and sedan that will top the German manufacturer’s automobile offering globally.
