The last new Ducati for India in 2021 has landed; meet the hooligan from Bologna, the 2021 Hypermotard 950. Sure, the bike isn't very different from the BS4 model, but it continues to be the only supermoto on sale in our country.
What's The Price? Who Are Its Rivals?
The new Hypermotard 950 starts at Rs 12.99 lakh for the RVE variant and goes up to Rs 16.24 lakh for the top-spec SP variant (both prices ex-showroom Delhi). Unlike the international lineup, the standard variant hasn't made it to India.
At this price, the Hypermotard 950 goes up against the Aprilia Tuono 660, Triumph Street Triple RS, and the 2021 Ducati Monster. None of these offer the supermoto experience, though.
How Many Variants Are There?
The 2021 Ducati Hypermotard comes in two variants: RVE and SP. While the Hypermotard RVE gets a special graffiti-like paint scheme, the SP features a MotoGP-inspired livery, top-spec Ohlins suspension, Marchesini wheels, and carbon-fibre components.
What's New?
The Hypermotard SP variant has set foot in India for the first time. Making it ever-so-special is its new red/grey/white livery inspired by none other than Ducati's GP21 MotoGP bike. The bike features top-shelf components, including Ohlins suspension, Marchesini wheels, and carbon-fibre elements. It's also 2kg lighter than the RVE variant.
This aside, Ducati has taken the 'if ain't broken, don't fix it' approach with the Hypermotard 950, keeping the RVE variant as is. The only minor update comes to the six-speed gearbox for easier neutrals.
What's Unchanged?
Nothing else has changed, really. The Hypermotard continues with the 937cc twin-cylinder motor putting out 115PS and 95Nm. Yep, this is the same engine as the Monster, SuperSport 950, and Multistrada V2 (previously known as the Multi 950), albeit with different engine tunes.
Both variants feature a 4.3-inch TFT instrument cluster, extensive electronics suite (wheelie control, bi-directional quickshifter, power modes, and TC), LED illumination, and a USB power socket.
Now, to the underpinnings. A fully adjustable 45mm Marzochhi USD fork and an adjustable Sachs shock absorber take care of suspension on the Hypermotard RVE, while the SP gets Ohlins at both ends. Both bikes use the same radially mounted Brembo M4 brakes to shed speed.
ZigSays
The Ducati Hypermotard 950 is undoubtedly a special bike, with its supermoto design teamed with top-notch electronics and a potent engine. And with the SP variant, it can only get better. So, if money isn't a constraint for you, we'd definitely say go ahead and buy it.
