New Single-cylinder Ducati Hypermotard Spied Testing highlights

A new Ducati is coming soon. What seems to be a single-cylinder Hypermotard has been spied testing abroad. The tall stance, long and flat seat, upswept exhaust and the 17-inch wheels are some of the major giveaways that it’s a supermoto.

What’s its displacement, you might ask? We think this engine could be a 659cc-odd one because the brand filed for the homologation of a 659cc liquid-cooled 4-valve single-cylinder engine back in late 2022 with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the USA. A lot of people might associate Ducatis with twin-cylinder or V4 engines, but the brand does have experience building singles in the past. The Supermono race bike is the perfect example that had a 572cc single-cylinder engine making a solid 75PS back in the 90s.

Like Ducatis do, this one too seems to pack premium hardware like an aluminum swingarm, aluminium subframe, long travel USD fork, a linked gas-charged monoshock, Brembo disc brakes and even a quickshifter. Expect it to be laden with electronics, including IMU-enhanced ones as well. The engine, meanwhile, is expected to pump out around 75-80PS. That way it’ll be perfect to take on the KTM 690 SMC R, which pumps out 75PS.

All in all, we think the bike is still around 1-1.5 years away from entering production. And even then too, it’s unlikely that the bike will come to India, for it’s likely for the European market to take on the likes of the KTM 690 SMC R. Plus the thought of a single-cylinder Ducati might not catch everyone’s fancy in India. So if you do want an authentic supermoto here, the Ducati Hypermotard 950 is your only option.
